looking for a 29er wheelset, around about 500 quid, used for xc stuff so must be light >1500g.

they come in about 1640g, bit too heavy
Yep, that's what I'd go for. In fact, that's what I went for. You can buy lighter rims, but crests are strong and versatile.

Save a few quid here... Stans arch, over £100 off... And blow the rest on a trip to the mountains.
It's what I use on a few of my bikes.... No problems other than fresh bearing after 18 months on a couple of customers wheels.
