My new bike being my first with wagon wheels ( 🙂 ) where do I go with pressures?
I have always run higher pressures than most in my 26" bikes as I ;loathe the "squirmy" feeling of low pressures. the new bike rims are wider which from my understanding from discussions on here means you can run lower pressures without "squirm"
My question is: with the bigger wheels would it be normal to run lower pressure than 26" wheels? Running fairly skinny fairly light tyres and tubeless
I have gone 28/32 front and rear for now
larger diameter wheels, tubeless tyres, and wider rims, does indeed mean lower pressures without the squirm.
I'm 75kg and would find 28/32 to be far too hard, very pinbally, i would hate the feel of that.
I run 17/19 psi in 2.25 x 29in tyres. i find that a couple of psi makes a noticeable difference (100mm hardtail though).
I'm 59kg and run as low as 10psi on the front with a 29mm rim. Anything above 20psi for me is like concrete.
BTW - i think i used to use about 25psi when i ran tubeless 26in wheels.
Trial and error really, but yeah, lower than 26s. I run mid to high 20s on 2.5 tyres in 30mm rims, 85kg. I’d hate 17/19 as mentioned above.
Depends on so many things really. The terrain, whether there's big road sections, the tyre brand, your weight, tubless or no, your own preferences. There's no hard and fast rules
I think the pressure's you've got are a reasonable start point. You can always try them lower if you want.
20-23 in 29 x 2.4's and 76Kg, but it does depend on what terrain I'm riding and how tough the tyres are. Also have some 2.5 & 2.6 tougher tyres, 18-20 in those.

This is pretty accurate for me. It requires a wide range of data input and some interpretation of factors.
Ta folks
so to expect to be 10 - 20% lower than I would be on 26" seems about right

Your contact patch on a 29er is marginally longer yes... But then personal preference counts for a lot anyway too.
I'd suggest trying 10% less than you are happy with in a 26" to start with and go from there... Too much emphasis is put on "you MUST run super low pressures" by those that don't fully understand the nuances of individual riders. Working for a tyre company, my colleague is perhaps 3-4kg lighter than me, but he can run 30-40% less pressure in a given tyre for a given situation. He's a lot smoother rider than me, and quicker uphill for sure, but I'm probably quicker down albeit not because of any finesse...
Ages ago I used to use the take your body weight in stone and times 2 then plus 2 to get a rear PSI and minus 2 to get your front PSI.
These days at around 85kg at the mo I run the following:
F:Magic Mary Super Trail 29 x 2.4 19-20PSI
R:Big Betty Super Trail 29 x 2.4 24-25PSI
Tyre width is a huge factor. I’d say a much bigger factor than diameter
I’m 100kg and try and avoid slamming stuff. I run around 20 psi in 2.35 inch mtb tyres
Harder than an orange, softer than an apple 😛
