[#10449942]

Was planning on a solarisMAX but no stock of larges.

I've seen the sonder signal which looks interesting but what else is out there?

Some limitations:

My forks are 120mm and non boost, so 650b+ is out and I'm looking at 2.3 tyre max.

I've already bought the build kit to fit a Solaris so 31.6 seat post for preference

I'm a fairly relaxed rider so think bimbling rather than jumping

Cheers

If you can find a good 2nd hand Kinesis FF29 that would fit the bill nicely. Run mine with 120mm forks. It is non-boost, has a proper threaded BB and a 31.6 seat post too. Comfortable runs 2.35 tyres both ends. Surprisingly capable for an XC oriented bike and mine has proven to be faultless after over 4 years and thousands of KM of riding/racing. I think its' replacement/current model will be boost? Nothing to stop you using a non-boost fork on a boost frame though.

Genesis Tarn ticks all those boxes, inc 29" compatibility and 31.6 seatpost.

What's the budget? Transition Vanquish fits the bill and is a lovely bike.

Ive run 27.5 x 2.8 with no problems on my non boost 120mm 29er forks.

There's a bloke on another thread looking to sell his Solaris Max... I'll find it, came up last night on here.

Interesting. I test fitted my 26" wheels in there which have 2.3" tyres and it looked a bit snug. I've got a yari fork.

Weeksy. Thanks for the pointer to the other thread

Will have a look at the vanquish. Budget is about £700 could go higher

Fair enough. Fork was Fox 32 RL and tyre was Minion DHF. Turns out I preferred the 29x2.3 anyway so that setup didn't last long.

I was torn between S-Max and a Stanton Sherpa... went for the Sherpa in the end as decided the S-Max may be a bit too rad for me. It was lovely to build and rides everything my FS rides... its a very balanced option

Saracen Zenith Carbon - love mine. 30.9 post, but otherwise fits the bill.

SC Chameleon (requires Boost/Boosted rear wheel).

I can’t speak for the 29er non boost yari, but my 650b non boostbYari has a minion dhf 2.5wr through it fine, on a 30mm internal width rim. Plus a big mud hugger thing.

That Solaris in the classifieds. Bargain if it's still available. Yes it's a medium but it's longer than most large frames.

If not recommend what you own: genesis tarn ticks those boxes. I've had mine a year and still loving it.

Narrowed things down to either a Sonder Signal, Cotic SolarisMAX or a Santa Cruz Chameleon. Got myself booked on the Cotic demo day at Rivington and will wander over to Hathersage next weekend to take see the Signal.

Took a look the All City Electric Queen but the paint job didn't wow me as much in the flesh as in the pictures. Shand Shug also looks interesting but feels too expensive for steel.

Frustratingly I have a garage full of shiny new kit but still don't have a frame to put them on...

Sorry slackboy, bought the last large Solaris Max last Friday (in dark metal). Turned up today. Tis a thing of beauty! I had narrowed down to this and Sonder Transmitter. Speak to Neil at Sonder as a lot of people are recommending running with the new 2.6 tyres rather than the 2.8/3.0 it is sold with.

Ha, that was you!

I was waiting for my old bike to be safely delivered to Poland before I hit the buy button...

Yeah, didn't mean to rub it in!
Seriously, have a word with Neil cos he may recommend running the 2.6's which means you can still use your forks.

I’ll throw in a Pipedream Sirius, available in both 650B and 29.

Purely because I was looking at their website the other evening. I like steel 😁
