29er forks in 27.5 ...

[Closed] 29er forks in 27.5 frame - what about offset?

Thinking about upgrading my non boost RS Pike fork as they are 5years old, running a 27.5x2.6 and it just fits.

Thinking my next bike might be a 29er, so want the choice if i upgrade. Thought i'd buy a 29er Pike but 10mm less travel (so 130mm rather than current 140mm) to account for the longer axle to crown so not to mess up the geometry, and it would fit the 27.5x2.6 easily but then remembered that most 29er forks are 51 offset rather than 42mm on my current Pikes.

I know you can start to get 46mm offset 29er Pikes but they seem slim on the ground and expensive

Will it handle radically different? Going on a 65 degree head angle full suspension?

One thing worth thinking about, clearance for a 27.5 tyre on a 29er fork may be worse than the clearance for a 29er tyre, because of the bulge around the seals (although you should be fine with a Pike I'd have thought)

I run a 2.8 DHF in my Fox 34 29er fork and it fits just fine, it's a 44mm offset too. Mate runs same tyre in a non boost 29er Pike and it fits too albeit a little tighter.

I did try a 29er fork with 51mm offset on my old Rocket and yes you could feel a difference, couldn't really say if it was better or worse though, just different.

You need to knock off 20mm rather 10mm, apparently.

Pike:
532mm - 27.5"/140mm travel
541mm - 29"/130mm travel

20mm Hmmm...that's still doable though
