Hi
Finally got around to sorting out my loft full of goodies and/or shite and I've got enough to build a 27.5 bike but the wheels I have are 142x12 only frames I can find are boost or QR
Does anybody know of any 27.5 142x12 frames knocking about ?
Any suggestions would be great
Fs or hardtail? The Onza Payoff and jackpot are bothe 142 and will both take 27.5. You might luck out and find one new somewhere but likely youl have to go S/H.
Buy a boost frame and a cheap adapter
Used? Should be much easier.
Like cd said, don't let bloody stupid boost restrict your choices, adaptors are easy. I'd never have accepted it from choice but the frame I wanted is boost and I'm not going to cut my nose off to spite my face
A lot of the adapters require a rear wheel re-dish, don't they? Or running the cassette in the 142 position in a boost frame, which isn't ideal.
Not sure if the dmr trailstar matches that but it is not qr or boost.
A wheel re-dish is easy. Some of the kits space everything on the left don’t they - just with a 6mm rotor spacer or something like that - putting the cassette in a good place. Some frames actually are fine running non boost cranks so a 3mm spacer each side of the wheel and 3mm rotor spacer would work fine in that case too.
If you have certain hubs there are better kits than the basic ones - Hope have dedicated option - plus there’s the MRP Better Boost kit and the Wolftooth Boostinator.
I have a feeling the Airdrop Edit V1 might have been non boost and isn’t that old.
Didn't really want to mess about with a re-dish
A re dish takes 5 minutes. Easier than fitting internal brake hoses!
A re-dish is minutes with a spoke key. Literally put quarter of a turn tighter on the spokes on the side you want to pull the rim towards - then quarter of a turn looser on the spokes on the other side. Check whether it’s gone enough. If not, another quarter turn both sides - and so on - until it’s where you need it to be. Pretty easy - a bike shop prob wouldn’t charge much for that either - maybe half an hours labour if you like them to give the wheel a general tube up and check over.
This does assume you don’t have any seized spokes / nipples.
Banshees have a choice of dropouts, so 142 on the old and new ones if you dont want da boosts.
As above, redish is pretty much undo one side by a half turn, do the other up by the same. Or in my case, I just tightened one side as I wanted more tension in the wheel than it came with anyway.
But do bear in mind that you might have bloody shitey alu nipples
