With the announcement today of Tweedlove going ahead for 2021 and clearly also Glentress 7 scheduled for May. And with other event being scheduled what is the opinion of the Singletrack crowd of the wisdom or otherwise of entering these events?

Will they happen as scheduled or cancel or postpone?
Is it worth the risk of entering?
Do you have outstanding deferrals in from last year?
What are your ambitions for 2021 and indeed 2022?

Personally I am reluctant to enter further events with little certainty already having a bundle of deferrals into this year and next.

I’m just hoping the vaccines will allow us flexibility enough to get to some events but I have no idea which. It all just feels a bit difficult without a crystal ball.

I guess it’s just go with the flow and take late opportunities as they come.

I'll check my crystal ball.

I very much doubt that events will take place in May, June or even later.

HOTS has already cancelled and deferred entries until 2022.

I'm not expecting any kind of grouped activity until after September at the earliest.

Doubt it will happen but event organisers are (sadly) now used to moving dates at short notice and carrying entries forward ,so I would enter if you fancy it.As an aside, unless it was a very big amount I have never asked for a refund on any races and used to consider it as money spent.Enter on the day can be a nightmare for organisers.

Its a gamble but I think Sept is safe enough. We have maybe 80 days of vaccination left before most of the population that wants it is done. Then some 140 days for that to have the desired effect. Should be OK assuming that the vaccine works. I'd not be booking any events in May myself, but you never know.

MTB Events running in May??? Maybe for Grand Vets and Super Vets only 🤣 I admire their optimism and with a hard lock down til then we might be safe enough, but aye, maybe.

Maybe they just need some cash in their bank accounts and plan on moving entries when they postpone..

I don't reckon I'm going to get my first jab til end of the year then another while before the second and then another few weeks for full efficacy...

I'm feeling a bit more optimistic these days

By the end of January, more than 10% of the population have received their first vaccine dose. Extrapolate that forward just a few months, and the most vulnerable, who are the most likely to need hospitalised, should hopefully be protected.

I'm hoping that eases things tremendously. The real problem has been the burden on the NHS, and the inability to deliver appropriate care if they get overwhelmed. It's constantly downplayed because it would be political suicide to remind everyone.

64% of all covid hospitalisations are for those aged over 65. Get them protected, and life starts to get back to normal, and I have to think that's on the horizon, barring any catastrophic mutation that renders vaccines useless.

My optimistic projection is July for events. This year's Highland Cross was due to take place in June but has just been cancelled.

I haven't even thought about any events or races for 2021. Haven't heard anything from the PMBA series which is what I have raced in before. I am booked on a long weekend stay in Glentress at the end of April which was postponed from last year. I'm guessing it will be moved again this year.

I can't see any events happening till later in the year (hopefully) especially ones that follow standard event format. Time trail style events with little contact, maybe a little sooner but not mass start. I have a entry for GT7 but I am not even thinking about it at all, the chances of it happening has to be close to 0%. Which is really sad, mainly for those trying to make a living from events like this.

I truly rubbish time to be an event organiser... unless you're in New Zealand/Australia, countries that have managed to be a billion times better at dealing with a pandemic than the UK's truly woeful attempt.

I love the GT7 and have an entry in from last year but thinking how busy it gets at the start finish , may feels a bit soon , i hope i am wrong though . Enduros might be easier as people are spread out more .

I have a place on the Transazores, but have decided not to commit to it, due to the uncertainty of covid etc.

But on the flip side, i have signed up to the tweedlove Tenduro. Hoping that at least by then we might have a level of 'normal' life back and whilst multi day enduros in lands afar might not be possible, i hope that UK based stuff might have kicked off by then!

Taking place? Possible. With crowds? Not a hope!

Hope the UCI is cutting organisers some slack on the financial side, if they're unable to rely on ticket sales to make money.

MTB Events running in May??? Maybe for Grand Vets and Super Vets only

That would also comply with the max gathering size of six people, for most enduros I've raced.

theres more of us old men still racing than you think😁(i'm not that old, last year was my first in grand vets)

not sure how many entries will be available for things like tweedlove events, most will be just filled up with last years entries.

Got a MacAvalanche entry that's deferred/defunct. Also a deferred Naughty Northumbrian. Right now I'm not even considering anything, I have the dates booked off but that's it.

I entered a duathlon after Lockdown 1.0 scheduled for March. Just received an email saying they comply with the latest Government guidelines and the race will be going ahead. Personally I think they’re at it! I don’t think I’ll be doing it!

Edit - I’m also doing the Frontier 300 in June but I’ve not heard anything about that yet!
