And I also found a supplier of ABS that is based in Hounslow. £20 for a 1300x660 sheet. Delivery is also 20 quid though, so I'll have to work out if I can arrange a day out of the office so I can go and collect..

Actually, they're right next to the tube. I may pop out there one lunchtime if they have stock.
The Bob Heath visor is fantastic! get the blue not smoke or clear. Blue and green are much nicer tints that make things stand out - this from my optician mother. Fitted into my Advantage helmet by prising back the outer cover. I'll add some silver tape to keep it in place. The only downside for me is I'll need some daily disposable contact lenses for my +5 eyes, as there is no clearance for glasses.
I may go for some of that sheeting too, since it's local to me.
-17 degree stem now fitted. Saddle angle fettled, and now have a drop of 12 cm to the pads, which I think is sustainable for up to 50 miles. Will test this on Thursday evening at the Hounslow 10.
Bugger. It's just their registered address. Stock is in Biggleswade.
There was a very nice chap vitesse3500 who I bought a wheel cover from on ebay, he doesn't have any items listed but it might be worth sending him a message.
If he is still in business then basically you tell him what wheel you've got or send him dimensions and then he cuts the plastic to size and posts it complete with everything you need to attach it to the wheel, cost something like £40.
If I bodge it that may be an option. 😆
I've got a sheet of 1.5mm ABS arriving tomorrow. Need to pop out and buy some ABS cement now.
No doubt I'll go to all this trouble for a PB and my next few events will be in awful conditions. Last week there were 6 people under 19 on the E2!! Conditions must've been pretty good then. Next week will probably be a hurricane.
@TiRed - how did you attach the cover to your Jet9 - flush on the side of the rim, or 'inside' the rim against the nipples?
I attached covers flush to the carbon with gorilla tape. Then masked with electrical tape all the way round.
I was thinking that if the covers sat slightly inside the rim as it curved in towards the nipples, it would result in a shape very similar to a HED Stinger disc.
Hoping to finally race for the first time this year tonight!
Minor crisis as I was loading the car this morning to realise 3 chainring bolts were missing! Amazingly I had some lying there in the garage, so it's going to be a bike fixing in layby kind of evening!
First time the TT bike has been out since the H50/8a last July so I'm not expecting much!
Crikey. That sounds like a bit of a last minute decision. Good luck!
Got confirmation of my ECCA 10 place this morning. Now I'm sat at home waiting for my ABS sheet to arrive. Wish it would show up soon so I can go out for a ride.
jb89, you riding the DPCC one tonight? Was thinking I might do that or the NHRC one on H10/1.
Only third time out for me (first was an early season club event win, second a DNF after less than a mile!) and I'm about to re-wire the bars. What could possibly go wrong 😉
Crikey. That sounds like a bit of a last minute decision. Good luck!
More last minute preparation than decision!
jb89, you riding the DPCC one tonight?
Yep! Looking like a decent night if the rain holds off! Only ridden the non 'R' version once and quite liked it so hopefully all will work!
Profile with covers is the same as a JET disc. Might put them back on for Sunday's inter-club TT. Was hoping to race the Hounslow 10 tonight, but events ha conspired. Powerpod gave correct calibrated readings on th rid to work after adjusting for normal helmeet rucksack and no velotoze 😉
Yep! Looking like a decent night if the rain holds off!
FFS this is getting ridiculous, finally legs feel ok-ish and I'm here ready to race but there's a huge thunderstorm overhead!
Decent night for my club TT - looked like it was going to be windy but seemed to drop nicely. Rode out on my commuter in a ski suit then switched to the TT bike which my OH had driven out with. Happy with 34.53 at this point in the season (12.5 miles with a hill) - my all time PB is a short 34 and I've never gone sub 35 before July until today.
Plus someone I've not seen for a while asked me how much weight I'd lost, rather than asking if I'd lost weight.
Rode out on my commuter in a ski suit
Must've been a bit warm this evening. 😯
Congrats on yet another PB!
Punctured at 14km. Was on for a short 23, which would've been a PB on this sporting course. Tubeless didn't seal and I had to walk back. Popped a tube into ride home, no easy task given the valve extender needed pliers to remove. Tyre isn't going to run tubeless again 🙁
Lower position felt good (front dropped 1.5 cm, saddle angle tuned a degree or so front half is level), was averaging 290 Watts with more left in the tank for the final hill, almost caught my minute man. Lots of positives for our club 25 on Sunday. Will need to keep that heart rate up even higher.
Bad luck on the puncture.
TiRed, is that the one on HCC001? Says "interclub members only". Which clubs can come ride? Desperately need some race miles!
Last night was the Hounslow and District Wheelers club 10. It's £3 and open to anyone. Starts at the bottom of Chobham Common and runs at 7PM every Thursday. Sporing is the right term, roads are in an interesting state!
The HC001 event on Sunday is a closed inter-club event between Twickenham, Hounslow, Westerley and Hillingdon.
There is a West London Combine 25 on the following week over at Great Missenden.
Come for the Thursday 10, there were only 10 of us last night.
I did have a look about coming out for one, but after looking at the map it's a bit far for me to get out an back. I may try and do it one day this summer though as, a) it would be good to put a face to some of the names, b) I can't do our club 10s on Wednesdays (unless I can wangle working from home).
Thanks TiRed. Shame that, could have done with racing on Sunday. Hopefully this coming Thursday is H10/1, just down the road for me. Be good to do Hillingdon though for much the same reason as matts says.
Next Wednesday is the fourth Westerley Wednesday - signup is on RiderHQ, but there are always places on the line. You may have to dodge the juniors, but it's 11 laps in a controlled environment and there is nothing better for analysis. I calibrated my powerpods there for road and TT. The TT one is providing really nice data now that I race by. Of course there is nothing stopping you from riding there anytime, and the Westerley Wednesday is a Strava segment. For training just try and knock out those sub 2:10 laps 😈
The Hounslow 10 is great fun, but I may be on GP 4 seasons next week 😆 .
mrblobby Kingston wheelers have a club ten on the g10/42 holmwood by pass next Wednesday evening, only a dozen or so on start list at present if that's any use, the club forum is locked down but let me know via pm if you want to be stuck on the list start time etc
Everything is on Wednesday. Bah.
A25/11 for me today. Hardest I've ever worked on the TT bike for a new PB and club ladies record of 1:02:12. Not a huge fan of the course but it was fast despite the wind. Only problem is I know I could have gone faster - hit a pothole with about 7 to go, hoped I hadn't punctured, carried on riding... Then realised when I got home that the rear tub was completely flat. Looks like I did puncture after all but it must have gone down pretty slowly thankfully.
Now to learn how to change a tub... (I bought it 2nd hand with the tyre on so have never done it before!)
TTT training today. Thankfully all of us raced (and PBd) yesterday (the others did a 10 on v718) so we were all happy to focus more on skills than speed. 20 miles of the national TTT course done, working out tactics and calls. Apparently there are only 5 ladies teams entered at the moment (entries close in 11 days).
Interclub 25 on a sporting course. 30 seconds up on last year and fourth on absolute time with 59:29. Targeted a setting of 300 Powerpod Watts, then realised when I got home I'd not set the calibration. Comparison with bikecalculator gives a more realistic 270-280 Watts, so that's my FTP at the moment. Came fourth but only half a minute down on the winner. Westerley 10 on Wednesday, Hounslow 10 on Thursday, Club championship Sunday. Should hit some form for Tour of Cambridge. Maybe.
Drilled some vents and fitted the Bob Heath visor to my Meteor.

Very neat, does it fit under the shell? I had to prise mine open and have secured it with a thin strip of duct tape. I didn't bother with holes as I've not found steaming to be an issue, but my Advantage has vents too which may help.
I ran a butter knife under the edge of the shell at the front to create a small groove for it to slip in. At the sides I peeled the foam pads back on the inside of the ear flaps. The bits on the ear flaps are what's actually holding to in place - there is enough tacky glue left on the flaps and the pads to pop the visor in and stick it all back together.
Just attempted my first 10 mile TT practice at Hillingdon.
Before I announce my stats bear in mind I was carrying 2 full 550ml bottles, 2 tubes, multitool, 2 co2, pump etc etc and I'm on a standard road bike with no modifications.
AND the wind, boy was the wind against me on the straight.
Stats wise:
24:36
24.4mph av 29.3 max
315w av 644 max (FTP is 315)
179bpm av 184 max (I max out at 205)
91rpm av 108 max
Quite happy with that for my first go (there's a few mins of me standing around before I actually start for some reason, as I set it to go as I was setting off): https://www.strava.com/activities/989437111/analysis/14/752
I have an entry for a hilly TT tomorrow evening across Saddleworth moor - never done a hill TT so was looking forward to something different, but unfortunately the forecast is looking grim with heavy rain predicted. Wouldn't mind but full-monty descending is not something I've done on the TT bike, so was hoping for a dry evening to try it out. Not lashing rain on a bleak-as-fk moor. I guess if it is really heavy weather it will be called off.
The wind is pretty heroic today. Should make the races fun tonight. Provided you ride anti-clockwise, strava will pick up the 11 lap westerley Wednesday segment. Those are great figures. I assume you were lapping at sub 2:20. My target tomorrow night is to go under 23 minutes. And remember it's 10.3 miles not 10. That helps 😉
Ah crap!!
I started at the line outside the clubhouse and did 11? Laps until the start/finish line which was 10.2. Should I have continued to the clubhouse?!
I don't think it'll pick the segment up then.... annoying!!
I spent 99% of the time in the drops with my elbows bent at 90 degrees, which was fine but as per my racing thread I don't think I'm in the best position to put down what power I have...
Afraid so. Start and finish is the line across from the clubhouse access path. Come tomorrow night: 6:30 for 7PM start, ride it properly with timing chip. I'm buying.
There is a road bike section.
If you've raced Hillingdon anticlockwise, then you will have recorded a time for that segment. But it will be a bunch time. I've never got close to my best E123 time, but then I can't lap in 1:52 on my own 😯
Argh that's so annoying haha. Might have to give it another go soon. I've also raised my saddle height as I don't think I'm fully utilising my leg length lol.
Maybe with some DIRT CHEAP bars attached? 😆
Unfortunately I've got family over tomorrow night, but thank you for the very kind offer!
It's a slippery slope into the world of testing. You're showing all the signs 😆 . Every second Wednesday. Or you can try the Hounslow 10. Every Thursday.
ORRL 9-up 25m TT at Weston on the Green airfield last night, brutal wind and rain. We came 6th with 57.02, with 4th-6th super close.
Used my winter bike (race bike needs multiple parts replacing) which has the bonus of power meter, which was useful. First time I've raced with power and ended up with np of 310w, which is useful! Just need to get it put on the TT bike and it might be even more useful!
jb89 - which club do you race for in the ORRL?
Wet Westerley 10.35. Finished in 23:18, so chipping away at the sub 23 mark. Still and not to cold, but rained throughout. Fewer hardy souls meant less traffic too. Best of all, my visor didn't fog (too much), despite the damp.
PP gave much more credible results post calibration (Av 265W, NP of 274W). Used this rather than heart rate for pacing. Target is 290-300W!
Argh yesterdays and todays races rained off! 😡
Mountain time trial last night over Saddleworth turned out to be superb conditions. One of those where the forecast looked like serious MTFU was in order - heavy rain over a bleak moor, and it turned out to be the opposite. No rain, still, and the sun even came out - lovely evening.
Great event - was pretty slow but good to ride something different. Think a road bike would have been better on these sort of big up / big down courses, but the TT bike I have wasn't too bad. Gearing was a bit tall on the second main climb, so mentally got a bit down with the struggle of it. Spinning an easier gear would have been faster and put me in a better frame of mind.
So I am assuming no team car for that swift bike change from road to TT then? Been done before. Tonight's Hounslow 10 was a good one to miss. Still rather raining and I had other commitments.
3 weeks ago a group of clubmates went to the E2/10 and all did 19s. On the back of this, I put in an entry for the ECCA 10 champs. Not mega keen on busy DC courses, but gotta give it a go on the South East's fast course some time.
... or not.
I dusted-off the clip-ons and proceeded to sit in traffic for over 2 hours on the M11. Not the best start to the day.
Forecast was windy, but just to add to the pain it started to piss it down the very moment the holder grabbed my seatpost (now now - no s****ing at the back!!).
A 12mph direct headwind for the out leg meant that any hopes of setting the 20-something I was after were out of the window already. Knowing the out leg was going to be the long one I had to aim for greater power on that leg and try to hold on. Averaged 344W on the way out, which was a smidge under my target, but I struggled to maintain that on the way back hitting only 324W. Stopped the clock at 21:54. Pretty disappointing really. I need to do more training in the TT position to hold the Watts.
One of my clubmates who did a 19:37 last time, was off at the same time as me and did a 21:10 today off exactly the same power. So I'm at least a little optimistic I have a mid 20 lurking in the back of the cupboard somewhere given a better day.
Of course, the conditions brightened-up and the wind eased a tiny bit later in the afternoon. Another of my clubmates smashed out a 19:50 for 2nd place.
Onwards.
EDIT: Looking at some local observed weather conditions. It appears that there was a sharp increase in the wind to 20mph at 3pm - when it rained - with gusts up to 30mph. And the it dropped again about 30 minutes later. 🙄 C'est la vie.
Crikey. Just looked through the full results and only 9 people under 21 minutes on the E2. 😯
