Got the chance of buying one of these for a reasonable price, anyone have/ridden one? Anything to look out for
Forum still not working properly 🙄
Can say about a 2017 one but the 2020 one is Awesome.
At it seems like you might also have ridden a Remedy, remedyflyer? Thinking of one of these for a poss FS at some point. Remedy is what I think I might like, but Slash would be a better complement to my slightly rowdyish HT.
Sorry for the hijack, Stu! It's a bump, at least!
How would you compare the two?
Very nice bikes by all accounts, I think there were some issues with the shocks though (assuming it's the thrushaft version, can't remember when they were released)
From my point of view have owned 3 26" Remedys in the past great bikes the 2017 one I had was 27.5" and never got on with that felt like I was sat in the bike more than on top of it was waiting for a 29er one to come out but never appeared so brought the Slash instead which I think is a great bike as said can not compare it to 29er Remedy never ridden one but the Slash does it all and I really like the Yari forks I know some people do not get on with them slash handles like a dream have ridden a 2021 EX8 which has 140mm front forks and the slash is way better over jumps and steep stuff.
And breathe...
I got a 2017 9.9 one (the bright red) second hand in 2018 (I think) as a frame and shock. It came with the Fox X2 shock, which was in need of a service and turned out to be unserviceable. The bores in the piggyback cylnder were worn, and as that is integral with the whole top of the shock, a replacement was £300 or so. TF Tuned urged me to fit a Cane Creek DB coil and it has been an absolutely great bike with that fitted. I am sure a working Fox would also be great.
What I like about it - modern geometry but not crazy, I can still have fun in my local woods on it as well as not feeling underbiked in the alps or at a bike park. I have actually grown to like the "knock block" system. Climbs well enough. A great all-rounder, not really a mile-muncher or a full-on race machine (by current standards) but everything in between. I wouldn't get the new Slash because it would be a tad too much bike for my needs.
Shocks - if it has the Fox do check it has been serviced and passed inspection. But on the bright side, it works great with a coil. A friend has had an Ohlins put on his and he loves that. (More recent model, same frame with the RockShox thru-shock, which have had issues compounded by a spares shortage.) Actually, spares shortages could be an issue right now for any component in need of replacement.
Anyhow, bottom line, great bike.
Looking at the bike tomorrow, it's had the brakes and drive train replaced with Saint and 12spd XT and the forks and shock (Rockshox) have both been serviced, it's rolling on brand new 27.5 wheels (thought that it wasn't compatible with them) but also comes with the original 29er wheels,if it's has good has it looks in the picture he sent me then I am going to buy it
