Given his previous infractions/collisions in road sprints I'd say arrogance but then again I don't have much time for him

Looked deliberate to me

It's extremely risky and very stupid to attempt a deliberate crash on the track and besides, taking out the Korean was of no benefit to anyone. 99% of the time in anything like that, both riders will go down.

It was a thoroughly stupid move but not deliberate.

clumsy, he swung up, expected the korean to come through low down and was swinging back on but the korean followed him up

Looked like a stupid move for cab, but I don't understand how if you crash you can just sit down and have a rest for a few laps and join back in and count as being on the same lap?

If cav hadn't looked back immediately before cutting down, I could have seen it being an unfortunate mistake, but to look round first then cut down, that just seems hard to explain/excuse.

He won't have won many friends with that.

I guess he didn't as he was lucky to stay on.

The race was neutralised for safety reasons so nothing counts. There's a rule in track racing that a crash or mechanical you can have up to 5 laps out to fix it all and rejoin as if you're still level pegging.

Similar rule in circuit racing, a puncture or crash and you're allowed one lap out, you rejoin in the same position you were in when the incident occurred and you're treated as being still in the race.

He glanced back before cutting down and braced for the impact.

I've not ridden on the track so can't really comment ie reduced vision / difficult to tell closing speeds?

He's been very aggressive citing down all race

so if he was to be warned, what does that mean? I can assume that "don't do it again" really doesn't amount to much, and if it had been seen as anything other than clumsy then they'd have pulled him by now wouldn't they?

That's a pretty good rule - I'm getting quite into this race now, If they can have a 5 lap sit down i probably could go & make some toast and not miss too much - maybe time it between the sprints

I can see this one slipping away from him actually, he's beginning to run out of time to gain a lap. Everyone is making it very difficult for Cav, he's being marked out of it.

Looks like he's defending bronze to me, rather than going for silver.

He needs to do it off sprints now, he can't gain a lap with 20 to go.

Why are they waving yellow flags at people? Warnings I'm guessing...

If Hansen hadn't thrown away the elimination race he'd be WAY out front now. Cav can get silver, very unlikely he'll get gold.

SILVER!!
Good effort that. Well deserved win from Viviani as well, that was a really class ride from him.

Arguably Cav lost the gold by messing up in the elimination as well

He appears to have done a very good job of justifying his selection though

Fair play Cav - read the race well and did what he needed to do.

Was hoping he'd go for a lap. I guess Silver is better than a potential nothing...

Bless, look at Viviani! He's in floods of tears. What a top ride from him, he really deserved that win, especially coming back from that crash. ๐Ÿ™‚

Was Cav having a little dig at Hoy when the mic picked up in that interview? Heard something along the lines of "he'd be straight over for Brad"...

Yes a very worthy winner.

Great work from cav, not least putting up with Jill Douglas infuriating platitudes straight after a shattering race.

Intriguing interview - he is both a simple and complex person!! I wish he had won gold but still a great achievement.

He looked whacked at the end there!!!

Watching it on Danish TV, apparently Lasse asked Cav to go with him on a break near the end but Cav didn't hear it.

I think he meant that he was stood there ready to talk but they had to cut to Jill yet - if they would be straight on it for Brad.

Anyway, I liked that interview. I like the guy - he was truthful. He wanted gold but didn't get it, so that's what he said.
