Just replace your front mech with a simple top only chain guide. Nothing else needs to change.

^ +1 absolute simplicity, to do and to use. I've got the E13 guide not super cheap but has been perfect since February.

Really?

I just don't get this - in all seriouslessness, what problems does your front mech give you?

Fashion over function imo. Personally I like 27 gears - and use most of them!

Why not lose the chainguide and go for a new thick/thin chainring, less stuff for mud to clog onto.

I only ever use middle ring 99. % of time
the other 1% I use big ring cause its there
When I switch to granny ring I might as well just get out
Of the saddle and push as its more bother than its worth
Not a fashion thing at all just eliminating probs before they happen

after using a top only guide on 1x9 for a couple of years with only occasional jamming, I will be fitting one with a bottom roller for full silent running.

Much prefer 1x to 2x or 3x on my HT. Much better mud clearance, simplicity, weight loss. I still want my granny on the big-bike though, for when my legs start to weaken late in the day.
