Confusion reigns! I've posted on similar before but about to order a rear mech and dithering.
Building a 1x9, coming off many years of riding ss only. I'm thinking a Deore 14-25 cassette or SRAM PG970 11-26 should be sufficient. Was going to get an SLX GS mech, but would I get away with a short cage road mech? Something like a 105 SS mech? Other option is a Saint GS or SS but too much £££.
Any thoughts? I want a tight chain and slick shift _ I'm not used to moving bits on my bike!

with either cassette option you should be fine with a road mech.

you can use a short cage (SS x.9) on a 11-34 (i do as do many others ).. so for your proposed cassettes SS will be best.
