Is there a size guide for 19mm bars with 26mm grips for kids? I'm trying to decide whether 28mm diameter grips would be ok for a 8 year old or whether something like the SDG Slater kit would be better.

(I'm somewhat miffed at shelling out on a Cannondale Trail 24 to find all of the contact points are utter garbage. It currently has 34mm diameter grips!)

My daughter is that age. I fitted the sdg kit, pedals, saddle, bars and grips as got a good deal on the pack.

proportions seem right.

There used to be some Answer/Hayes stuff designed for 6-10yos - J-Unit range. Needs special grips though.

Did look at buying but my two are past that point now.

Looking at those, the Hayes thing looks neater (but less flexible) in that the shifters/brakes clamp onto the grips rather than onto shims.

I put urchins on 10yo's new bike. They lasted 1 ride and then the sdg went back on. The proportions are just way off when you use anything designed for an adult. Even if you can, probably doesn't mean you should.
