For Lakes, North Wales and Scotland riding (bit vague I know) would I be better with 140 or 160 travel Fox forks?

My front hub only takes standard QR and is not upgradable so am I limited to 140s with Fox?

I run mine with 160mm Fox's...

But am thinking of reducing them down to 140mm to see how that feels...

Yes, afraid so.
.
To answer your question though, I have Talas 160/120 on mine and have to say that 160 is fantastic. Previously had 140s and would say the 160 is better. Have 120 option for steep climbs, works well.
.
I really would't buy a QR fork though, get yourself a new 20mm front wheel and go for the 160 Talas.

Just out of interest why have you limited your choice to fox, and when its going on a heckler (which isn't as high end)

Have you considered getting the wheel relaced with a new hub? If you choose the right hub you may be able to use the same spokes, if you lace it up yourself as well (and get a trusted LBS to tension/true it) you can keep your costs down a bit
If you need new length spokes to go with a new hub then it can often be cheaper to get a new wheel built than new hub/spokes/wheelbuild. Even if costs were close with a new wheel you sell the old QR one on

I'm with jockhaggis on this one.
I've got 36 160/120 talas on mine.
Drop em down and I can pretty much climb up anything.
Let em out to 160 on the downhill bits and let the fun begin ๐Ÿ˜€
If you can scrape the money up to get them it's well worth it.
Ps you can soon get a 20 mm adaptor for your front wheel.

Well to cut a long story short...

I have matching green hubs and I'm a colour matching whore, so, if I changed my front hub then I'd also have to change my rear (anal, I know!).

I've ridden both Fox and Rock Shox and I've always just preferred how the Fox feel, again just personal preference I guess.

Just done a deal on some Float 140s anyway so it's all by-the-by now I guess but thanks all for your input anyway. Would have liked 160s but hopefully the 140s will ride well, too. I'm used to riding a hardtail with 100s on anyway so 140s will feel massive in comparison.

Can't wait for it all to come together and get out in the Peak!

Dare I turn this into a 'show me your Heckler' pics thread? In fact no, I'll start another one ๐Ÿ˜€

Briefly ran my 2011 Heckler with 150mm Fox 32's but it just didn't feel right.

Now running RS Lyrik Coil U-turn's.....now THAT'S more like it!!!! Absolutly lovely. Got a 5th Element coil on the back too and the combination is great.

It's going to be a fun 3 weeks Alps trip soon.

No it's more a yellowy green. The DT wheelset came with my Cube GTC Reaction SL -- off of which I'm now selling the frame and forks and the rest of the kit is going on the Heckler.

That's what I thought about my ex misses but it didn't last long. I'm shallow, I go for looks every time ๐Ÿ˜†
