First 12hr event coming up at Erlestoke this Saturday and pre race nerves have me obsessing about pacing.
I've done a lot of training and some racing up to 7 hrs and a bit less up to 8hrs. My fuelling is sorted up to that duration. 7hr race average hr was 82% and felt as if I judged it about right. 8hr fast training pace that felt I could go on a the end of was about 72% which makes me think I'm looking at about 70% for 12hrs. This means limiting myself to no more than low Z3 for hills and a bit less for the rest plus as much freewheeling as possible.
I think this probably means I'm only racing myself and also that it's completely pointless trying to start fast to avoid bottlenecks. I am also wondering if at some point say 8hrs when I pick up my lights whether I ought to try to get some hot food/dring down me
Any tips gratefully received.
