[#2313070]

I have an Orange Five and a 100mm HT but thinking of doing the TransWales next year. Have been thinking of building up a lightweight 120mm FS for a while for local riding anyway. Now I don't fancy doing it on the Five as its over kill and the climbing will be arduous and wonder if the HT will be too butt punishing? I have quite a lot of spares inc wheels, Cassette, Crankset, and can prob get some forks and brakes cheap so.

1. Shall I just do it on a HT?
2. If a 120mm setup would be spot on - any recommendations (excluding Specialized or Commencal) for a frame only bargain around?

Yeh I saw one for £900 - maybe still a little steep - was thinkinh of around £600 for 09' 10' model - I did see an ST4 for £600 but wrong size and weight wise prob not much diff to a Five frame 🙂

I was going t suggest that too actually, not ridden one but have been looking at them. There's one on Pink Bike for £650 that has forks, headset, stem. Looks like a good deal. Bear in mind it's a 1.5" headtube, so while it might be a good deal if you need forks (Float RL 120s), if you're thinking of selling the forks, there isn't a market for them, so it's not as good a deal.

If you're a tiny person, this is a real bargain for a full 120mm bike

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't an Orange 5 have 5" of travel?

In my book that's 127mm of travel, seems a bit much to get a new bike for 7mm less travel.

Apologies if I'm wrong.

Nah the Five is the 140mm version of 5" not the actual proper version of a 127mm/5" travel bike.

How's about a Nicolai Helius CC, you can get a new frame for a grand at the moment
