120mm Carbon Hardtail?

I’m looking at the Ibis DV9, it seems perfect for what I want, at a lightweight yet reasonably durable 120mm.

Are there any other frames similar that I may not be aware of that don’t require the sale of my kidneys to fund.

Yeti ARC?

Biketart still have a few 2022 frames knocking around which are identical to current save for 1 graphic.

Its 130mm but what’s 10mm amongst friends?!

@solarider the Yeti Arc was my starting point for all of this after realising that I couldn’t justify the SB130 recently.

Whatever I decide I’ve got to pair to a 120mm Sid I have going unused.

ARC will work fine with 120mm forks IMO, seen them built with 100mm up to 140mm. Great frames and certainly fit your brief.

Massive fan of my ARC. Had it since pretty much they came out.

In terms of fork travel, this is from the FAQ on the Yeti site:

The ARC is designed to run a 130mm travel fork. We test our frames to 20mm over the spec fork. So if you’re feeling the need to beef up the fork, you can run up to a 150mm fork no problem. It will slacken the head angle and seat tube angle and raise the bottom bracket. Running a shorter fork is fine too, if that suits you. Shortening the fork will steepen the head angle and seat tube angle and lower the bottom bracket. For more geometry information, check out the geometry section.

Sell the SIDs (to me?) and then get an Arc?

Have recently built up a Trek Procaliber 9.6 with a SID Ultimate RD3 120mm fork and am absolutely beaming with how well it rides. So far its seen a day at Llandegla and a 60k XC loop on my local trails (North Downs) and eaten everything up. Picks up speed and carries the momentum well and handles really nicely too.

Cube C:62? Cheaper option but mine is lighter than my mate's Procalibre and it rides very well. Saying that, if I had the cash I'd have the Yeti!

BMC Twostroke? Longer and slacker than most options despite it's very-XC marketing and looks (and weight).

That would be my choice over the Yeti too. I always think that being slightly over-forked is better than being under-forked.

Came to say Whippet and have been beaten to it.

Still, I loved mine and it was a very fast bike with 130mm forks, so I guess 120mm will make it a bit more rocket like.

Helps with the not selling body parts side of things too.

BTW, stealth ad alert.

I built my ARC with a set of 130mm Fox 34 Rhythm forks. After 3 rides I got the opportunity to buy some orange Factory 34s which were too tempting.

So I am about to advertise the Rhythms for sale. Like new. 190mm steerer. 130mm travel. Frankly amazing forks and apart from the Kashima and Orange lower legs I really can’t notice a difference in performance. £200 should do it. Think they were £300 3 rides ago and they are unmarked.

Just a thought in case you fancy an ARC but the 120mm SIDs are a concern.

Do king still make 5mm base plates? Half the problem solved with the 120mm fork!

I've been considering a Trek Procaliber and sticking some 120mm SIDs on it. Anyone got any input on sizes, I'm 6'2 so I'm guessing an XL?

How does anything from Yeti meet this criteria?

Sounds about right as I'm the same height as you and my mate's XXL is a touch too big.

Epic 120mm hardtail?

https://www.certini.co.uk/bikes/mountain-bikes/2022-specialized-epic-hardtail-mountain-bike–gloss-tarmac-blackabalone__81351

not surprised they’ve had to half the price, 3.3k for a Judy fork, NX and oem wheels 😂 even at half price not sure that’s a good deal

I would also recommend a Yeti Arc. I have the first gen carbon and it is now 12 years old. Great value for money if you look at how long you could keep it for.

I’ve had a Whippet and they’re decent enough but both my Cube and my mate’s Procalibre are much better bikes imo.

I’ll very soon (tomorrow?) have a 2020 Scott Scale 920 for sale. Any good?

I think it’s only 100mm travel but if it’s an issue I have some Fox Performance Elite (110mm) forks I could swap over.

ARC’s have been on clearance in the not too distant past, someone might still have one around.

@stayhigh - congrats on having a top Google hit for 120mm SID on procaliber 🙂 Are you still happy with it? Are you running with normal sag or slightly increased to compensate for the longer travel?

I have had my procaliber since last April and have decided that the recon probably needs to be upgraded for 2024. I cannot adjust the rebound speed (knob feels seized and I never got round to taking it back to the bike shop). It feels stuck on slow, which seems not so uncommon.

I have some old 120mm Reba's that I could try but they are non-boost and I have a milestone birthday coming up. Seriously considering gifting myself the SID Ults too 🙂

@Painey - I am 182cm and happy with the L. I'd say XL is most likely. However, depending on torso - leg ratio and riding style it is possible that L is large enough so ideally test ride.

Thanks. I ended up buying an XL Yeti Arc for just over £2k, ex demo. Safe to say I am very, very happy with it.

Pretty sure the Epic is the same as a Chisel and 110mm is max travel.
