Hi, I'm about to order a new chainset that I fancy, with a single ring. Will a 11 speed chainset / ring work with a 10 speed chain and cassette?

I'm using the same N/W ring I was using on 10sp on 11sp (mountain of course) with 10sp cranks on 11sp drivetrain what wouldn't be compatible?
