[#12024109]

Is anyone thinking of repeating this in 2021? I had a lot of fun with it last year, using it as a real encouragement to get out when the weather was less than ideal. I was also one of the many who "discovered" yoga to be a real benefit.

I make Sept 16th as the start date, so there's some time yet to consider it. Use this thread as a way of updating progress and providing a bit of incentive to those of us looking for inspiration and a wee push now and then.

Same loose "rules" as last year; 30 minutes exercise, indoors or outdoors, and we'll forgive the occasional lapse.

I’m in!

Recovering from elbow surgery after smashing it to bits and I’m really struggling mentally without being able to get out on the bike, this should be good motivation!

Do commutes count? I personally don't see why not. The idea is that this should be an incentive to exercise. If you'd otherwise drive or take public transport then it works for me. Encouraging folks out of cars seems like a worthwhile side effect, especially when many will be reluctant to use public transport and risk infection.

will count any commutes in the early days and if the incentive means i get to 4/5days per week, i will add something else in

Aiming to log an activity on Strava every day this year and still going strong so I'll definitely be doing this.

Oh yeah, I liked this last year...

I'm in...

I made commuting count as it's exercise too!
Basically... moving one's body for 30 min...

Good shout...

I was up for this last year then illness hit right in the early days. I’m in this year.

If I remember rightly wasn't this started to remember someone’s fallen friend?

Defo a great way of staving off the autumn lethargy. Thanks again to @munrobiker for introducing this.

Glad to see this resurrected,  I'm going to have a battle on the days I have kids, but plan to rope them in, so less bike riding but more trampolining!

Any idea how to record that on Strava?!

I’m guessing walking the dog counts, say a couple of 20 min walks minimum a day ? Plus some rides of course !

Oooh, meant to do this last year but got in about a week before an aweful cold got in the way. Just getting over a cold now so fingers crossed I can make it a bit longer this year!

Can't remember if it was this one or our work one but am I right in thinking occasional missed days were allowed as long as time was made up by the end of the week?

Personally the only rules I used were that it had to be every day, and it had to be something you wouldn't have to do anyway. A short dog walk wouldn't count, for example, but upping that to a couple of hours definitely would. For me, missing days would be a fail - I exercise most days anyway. The challenge there is to avoid missing one!

But AFAIK there's no official governing body here, just make sure it's a challenge... i.e. you need days where it's an effort and the only reason you do exercise is to avoid having to admit to it on this thread...

Anyone thinking about taking on this challenge should just have a go and try to keep going. The fitness benefits you will have gained by next year makes this such worthwhile.
It’s tough, especially when the weather isn’t being nice and the nights draw in meaning that you have to embrace the hardships but you will also gain a great sense of accomplishment for getting out when you wouldn’t usually.
I’m in.

Yeah I'll be in again. When it came to finish last year I was really enthusiastic to continue maybe not every single day, but to be more consistent with my exercising.... after a short break of course... but instead hit a slump and didn't bother with yoga or stretching or strength, just a ride and a run most weeks. My partner then picked the exercise bug and continued for most of the year which was good to see. Over the past couple of months I've picked up the exercise bug again and have recently started exercising during lunch breaks at work so won't need to count every commute.

Might give this a go. I managed to walk, run or ride every day from Christmas to when the clocks went forward this year but being in lockdown meant the were less demands on my time!

I'm in. Illnesses totally killed my attempt last year, so this will be good motivation to get on with strength or mobility work on my non-cycling days!

I had a reminder in my phone to post this on Monday! Amazed anyone is impatient to get going on it to be honest.

The official rules are that regular commutes don't count - trundling 5 miles to work in half an hour is out. There is some leeway though, I got dispensation for a 15 mile 50 minute one. But the reality is you can do what the heck you like, it's not bootcamp.

I think that's the "rules" that were talked about last year, though many people missed a day and got back on it or added days to the end.

I seem to recall a lot of late night walks and discovering YouTube yoga!

I'll join the fun for this one. My exercise regime has gone almost completely and I'm a little worried about S A.D. affecting me a bit more than normal, this should hopefully work to prevent that. I'll rope the other half in aswell.

YouTube Yoga was great if you couldn’t manage anything physical! I’ll give it another bash. Loved it last year. I did a lot of running last time but I’ve been nursing a knee injury since May so runnings out. Can still cycle tho. See you at the finish line 🥳

Im in. I tried v hard last year but had a few failed days.

Im pretty sure the OP from last year started it to remember a fallen friwnd who used to do this.

There was a strava group too last year.

Im retired now, so hoping the lack of shift work gives me the required power-up!

If yoga isn't physical then I'm doing it all wrong

I'm in tho I'll be starting a week late so will do 100 days to New Year.

Last year I kept on going and exercised every day thru to mid June, bar 3 days when I had a cold. Then in June I picked up a niggling injury and have been only doing 3-4 times a week

And it got me started on yoga which has been great!

Definitely in. I've loved it the last two years. Really gets me thinking about how to fit exercise into my daily life.

Looking forward to it 😀

Going to give this a go, thanks OP.

Quick question, does it have to be 30 mins solid or just in the day to keep to the rules?

Flexible, whatever works for you. 2x 15min commutes would be ok in my mind, for example.

It's not a question that's been asked before and the man who can decide is dead so you can do what you like.
