Can I?
Want to swop rings from a Shimano FC-M552 to my older, but lighter SLX chainset.

yup

I am guessing your 10 speed chainset has the nice composite middle ring?

Be aware that the ratios might be different as 10 speed are normally 24-32-42. Leave your 9 speed front mech where it is though as if you drop it down it will strike the middle ring as the 10 speed one is designed with a different path.

It will shift fine though.

Yes 10 speed has composite middle ring.
All other parts are 10 speed, just trying to loose the heavier crank body.

Thanks - looks like a budget arms with SLX type rings.
