Focus was founded in the early 1990s by three-time cyclocross world champion Mike Kluge, and started life building mountain bikes before expanding into road, touring and gravel. It is based in Cloppenburg in northern Germany and is part of the Derby Cycle group.

In mountain biking, Focus is best known for pushing e-MTB design — lightweight integration and compact drive systems on bikes like the JAM and SAM — alongside a capable range of trail and enduro full-suspension bikes.
