Stolen! Frameworks Racing’s Van Full of Gear and Bikes

by 34

Neko Mulally has taken to Instagram in an appeal to recover his team’s stolen bikes and gear. The van, containing a number of bikes and spares, was stolen from outside a hotel in Milton Keynes as they travelled from the Fort William World Series DH race.

The van and some goods were later recovered thanks to tracking devices they had placed on some items, however some very unique bikes remain missing, along with some high end race spares. If you spot any of these items for sale, Neko is asking that you contact them or the police.

Frameworks DH bikes stolen in Milton Keynes, UK

Please keep an eye out for listings online. Email us with any info at info@rideframeworks.com or contact police directly (Good luck).

We lost:

3 Frameworks DH race bikes
1 Specialized S-Works Levo complete bike
2 Specialized S-Works Levo frames
1 Specialized S-Works Kenevo complete bike
2 pro tool boxes
Custom helmets and gear

We appreciate you sharing this!

This will come as a particularly hard hit to the small team, who were on a high after team member Asa Vermette took the junior men’s race with a huge 6 second margin. Let’s hope they can recover the gear and carry on the season.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

It’s such a shame to see some of the coolest, most unique bikes disappearing like that. I’m hoping for serious karmic retribution should they ever turn up again.

If they try to sell them somewhere it’ll be very obvious. Unless they sell them to the local estate scally for £50, they’ll probably appear for sale somewhere, and I doubt they’re smart enough to know they have 3 completely one of a kind bikes that aren’t for sale anywhere else

It was a bog standard white van. No team branding on it. Unless someone’s been tailing them from Fort William or maybe saw them with bikes in the car park then it was likely random

Yep, they only knew they were stealing a van, IMO.

Hopefully whoever’s got the bikes won’t have the sense to just strip the components and dump the highly identifiable frames.

That’s really harsh as it’s not just a case of replacing it with an off the shelf frame.  Hopefully they can produce them fast enough they’re not out of racing

Next race is in Poland in 1.5 weeks, so unless they have spares sat at home in the US which could be shipped out quick then they may be scouring eBay for cheap DH bikes.

then they may be scouring eBay for cheap DH bikes

I can’t see that happening here, given the company owner/rider position.

if it’s that or not racing, especially Asa, I think they would do it. ENVE are sorting their wheels, other sponsored stuff is likely off the shelf and easy to source. Just the frames are going to be the sticking point.

downside to their unique set up I guess.
If a minor team or privateer were to lose a V10, Supreme or Sender they’d be inundated with loaners from the factory teams.

I was being darkly humorous about eBay.

Other teams will offer to lend them frames as a stopgap.

ah I was thinking you meant to buy rather than recover.

The problem is particularly bad for Asa. He wins rnd1 on the Frameworks, winning again on an *insert brand here* doesn’t really look good for the them. If he doesn’t win its just because its a new bike to him or whatever.

I would imagine Neko would just sit out until he got a new frame.

I reckon Neko would happily admit that Asa could win on almost any frame.

He’s just chuffed that he’s secured the lad for a few years.

And while this is obviously shit and they’d never have wanted it to happen, they are getting more publicity as a result – which is particularly valuable for a startup brand with no real advertising budget.

I wonder how quick Five Land could knock out another steel frame? Would be great for the team and awesome publicity for Five Land/Cotic.

    A proper low stakes conspiracy.

Like headset cable routing being a ploy to sell more bearings due to the increased water ingress.

My middle lad had his company pickup raided recently in a hotel car park, no one saw anything nor any CCTV.

Cost £8k to replace the tools. they also took the (very) specialist part he was due to fit to a machine the next day, best part of £10k – and absolutely zero value to anyone, bet it ended up dumped.

Thanks for that. I’ve never stolen anything in my life but I have been the victim of burglaries, bike theft, stolen cars etc. I know how it feels to be on the receiving end.

    😉

    Unfortunately I’ve had similar experiences.

A few years ago the basement was broken into. They took the GF’s £1000 Boardman and had to move my tricked out DB Alpine (Deemax wheels, Lyrik, XTR drivetrain and brakes….) out of the way to get to it. The components alone on my bike cost more than the Boardman!

Those merchants obviously had little clue what they were talking, especially given Boardman bikes weren’t even a thing in Germany.

I partly agree with sharkaattack here in that it’s maybe not knowing the value of what they are stealing (custom made DH bikes that they or anybody else won’t be able to ride at any proper DH venue because they are too unique), but more that it’s they don’t know or care about the value of what they are in effect destroying.

The ebikes can maybe go to some scummy drug dealer types for cruising the estate, the suspension components and tools split and sold on FB marketplace? That would net them what, £3k tops. When its probably £30k retail or £20k insider cost for Neko to replace, added to any damage to the van. Plus the possible career detrement to the riders if this hampers their next race.

But the scummers don’t care about that. They will do this, they will smash a £2k patio door just to steal a second hand ipad, break a car window just for some sunglasses the pennies in the ash tray. They are either too ignorant of the effects or too un-empathetic to it, and I think thats what annoys me most.

What I meant was that every time something gets knicked everyone on here assumes it’s a smash n grab by some opportunistic crack head.

These thieves who target hotels and swipe vans aren’t just opportunists, it’s their job. They’re out there every night doing it. They’re motivated, fearless and have years of experience.

I agree that they’re shit eating scumbags who specialise in making people’s lives miserable but they’re clearly not as daft as people like to imagine.

sharkattack – You’re 100% right and if anyone cares to listen to Neko on the Kickstand podcast he would confirm it.

Neko told the MK Police that through the Airtags in the van they knew exactly where the bikes had been taken. The Police refused to do anything about it. I believe the Police knew who had stolen them and were too scared to do anything about it.

Neko followed the Airtags and ended up on a ‘ahem’ campsite. Neko said there were caravans everywhere and a professional looking operation stripping down stolen cars, vans and bikes. Neko was told in no uncertain terms to leave if he valued his life.

How dare you denigrate this marginalised community?

They are a minority with a rich and varied history of half inching and ripping people off….. It’s part of their culture.

On another related topic, Canyon Enduro team had their bikes stolen from their van in Vienna. Bikes seen a few hours later in neighbouring Bratislava.
