Fresh Goods Friday 809: The MIA Edition

As several Posties and couriers will attest, Singletrack Towers has been pretty deserted this past week. Blame half-term holidays.

So this week’s Fresh Goods Friday is a bit different; it’s essentially a collection of what we think has been Attempted Delivery-d and is now languishing in a nearby depot waiting for us to collect.

Missing In Alicante?

DT Swiss FR 1500 Silver LTD

  • Price: ยฃ499.99 rear, ยฃ354.99 front
  • From: Freewheel

ย Limited Edition version of the successful FR 1500 wheelset but with natty all-silver components. FR 541 rim, Swiss-made Revolite spokes and a pair of 240 EXP hubs featuring the DEG DF anti-kick back doohicky. DT distributors Madison will only have a limited allocation available in the UK. So act fast if you want some silver spinny spenny.

YT Decoy X Core 3

Yeah, it’s an Avinox. Say what you will about the phoenix-like death and rebirth of YT Industries, but there’s no denying that the previous Decoy eebs have been easily some of the best handling eMTBs out there. And now there’s a range featuring the almost ubiquitous Avinox MS2 motor system. Oh, the bike? It’s an aluminium 170/160mm travel ‘electric Capra’.

Mantou Mezzer

A very exciting fork for us Manitouheads. The longer travel Mezzer has been segmented into two different chassis. The Mezzer Pro / Expert chassis is designed for 140-170mm travel. “Thanks to Manitouโ€™s Reverse Arch design, this 37mm chassis delivers the stiffness of a 38mm fork while maintaining an overall build that is amongst the lightest in its class. The resulting shorter air shaft benefits from reduced side loading and results in lower breakaway friction.” The Mezzer LT chassis is designed for 150-190mm travel. “With a reinforced crown and thicker-walled stanchions, the LT pairs its burlier build with the same Reverse Arch advantage, ensuring unmatched stiffness while driving weight down. The result is a fork that offers big feature strength and performance without the weight penalty normally associated with this level of capability.”

Whyte Karve, Syphon & Sythe

  • Price: ยฃ5,650 Karve RS, ยฃ2,199 Syphon S, ยฃ3,199 Sythe RS
  • From: Whyte Bikes

A trio of new bikes from Whyte. Left to right: Karve is a 160/160mm full-power eMTB designed for trail and enduro riding … aimed at riders who want the added power and range of the Avinox system; Sythe is a 170/160mm alloy enduro bike with Quad-Link suspension, adjustable geometry and MX compatibility; Syphon is a 140/135mm trail bike with Quad-Link suspension, full 29er wheels and adjustable geometry. Which of these three should we get in for review?

e*thirteen Sidekick Flux Wheelsets

More anti-kickback hubs. This time e*13 are pairing Sidekick hubs with front and rear specific rims. Wheelsets: Optimus (Trail), Sylvan (All-Mountain), Grappler (Enduro-DH). Builds: Pro Carbon, Pro Aluminium, and Aluminium. Hub: Sidekick 2.0. Anti-kickback, zero drag, near silent, tool-free adjustable engagement. Rims: Concave low-profile Flux design. Front and rear specific. ASTM Ratings for disciplines. 30mm inner width. Warranty: Infinite Ride. Lifetime on carbon and Pro aluminium rims. 10 years on hubs.

USE Revo 5

With 2,000 lumens, the Revo 5 claims to be the brightest dynamo light on the market. Features: 1,600 mAh internal battery, IP68 waterproof tested, IK09 impact tested, two program options (Infinite Runtime and Fixed Output), three modes per program (High, Low, DayBright pulse), one dynamo input port, two USB-C ports (input and output), 45 minute charging time from mains source, 45 minute charging time from dynamo, compatible with all AC dynamo hubs, 12ยฐ spot beam, CNC-machined 6063 aluminium body, made in the UK.

Wolf Tooth Locked-In Bar Ends

Yep, production-made versions of those things that WC DH racer Joe Breeden has been sporting for the past couple of seasons. “Wolf Tooth Locked-In Bar Ends give riders more control with reduced fatigue for gravity riding. A firm, ergonomic outboard flange supports the rider’s hand allowing for a lighter grip on the bars and reduced arm pump so you can push your bike harder for longer.”

Formula Cura 4 Kashima

Kashima is not a Fox thing. The distinctive coating is developed and applied exclusively by the Miyaki Company in Japan. These brakes are more expensive (โ‚ฌ310) than the regular Cura 4 – each brake has to be shipped to Japan to be anodised in-house by Miyaki. Features: four 18mm thermoplastic pistons with low roll-back seals, two-piece lever with feeling control system and tool-free reach adjustment, pairs with new Japanese Gold anodised two-piece rotors. All-in-all, impressively ridiculous.

Hercules De Alicante CF shirt

  • Price: โ‚ฌ25.99
  • From: Decimas

A souvenir from me holidays. It may possibly double as a riding jersey for these warmer climes. We shall see. P.S. would anyone be interested in a destination guide to Alicante? It’s certainly very cycling friendly (mainly roadies but bikes is bikes) and there have been numerous mountain ibke industry press launches based in the area (and also at the Altea end of the coast) and we can confirm there’s a decent amount of riding down there.

Singletrack OG Ride & Shine T-shirt

A shameless attempt to piggyback on to the continued sunny weather happy vibes. Woo! Anyhooโ€ฆ This shirt is aย fairly relaxed fit. If you want an oversized down-with-the-kids look, go for your usual size. Otherwise, please refer to the size guide in the description and be prepared to size down from your usual.

Stale Goods Friday –

Back in 2010 some chancer called “Ben Haworth” wrote: “Cannondale RZ One Twenty (or Rize 120 if you prefer – we do). Yes, that is a 1.5 steerered QR fork. 120mm travel. The original Rize was a 130mm travel bike. This year there’s two versions: one with 120mm travel, one with 140mm travel (the RZ One Forty).”

  1. Which of these should we get in for review?

The Syphon please because I nearly bought a T140RS but 1) got wind of the discontinuation 2) work messed up my C2W voucher. So now the Syphon is an option. Being essentially bike snobby, I thought the new reduced price, single model could be “too cheap" (did I really type that?) but also I think I’d prefer mullet by intention. Does the Syphon still have the MX link mullet option?

  2. I could have been tempted by those DT wheels but no mullet set so I’m out. ย Bit surprised they’re full 29 only given they are at the more robust end of the scale.
Right now I’m trying to decide whether the DT or E13 ‘anti kickback’ hubs would be nearly as good but less maintenance than the chain damper I already have on one bike and like a lot.
