Women To Compete At Red Bull Rampage

by 3

It has finally been confirmed: this year will see women compete at Red Bull Rampage. Details are thin on the ground right now, but it’s been confirmed there will be a new two-day format for the event, and that women will be there.

Here’s the press release:

The Evolution of Red Bull Rampage Continues With Two-Day Event and Addition of Women’s Category

Red Bull Rampage, mountain biking’s premier big-mountain freeride event, will return in 2024 with the introduction of a women’s competition and a brand new two day competition, further progressing the sport to new heights.

For the first time in the event’s history, Red Bull Rampage will see the world’s top men’s and women’s freeride athletes descend upon the rugged terrain of Virgin in Southwest Utah, as part of an expanded two-day event this October.

Follow @redbullbike and visit redbull.com/rampage for further updates on the event schedule, venue, ticketing information, list of invited athletes and more to be announced later this summer.

To mark this news, we’ve lifted the paywall on this magazine feature on Formation, the women’s freeride event started by Katie Holden, who saw a need for a platform that would showcase what women could do when given the opportunity. There are others who have helped make women at Rampage happen, but to my mind Katie is the one that pushed Formation into being and gave women’s freeride the boost it needed to get wider attention. Thanks to Katie and everyone else who have got us to this point. We’re looking forward to what’s next.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

    Good to see.
Hopefully some of the women who ended up not competing at Hardline will get an invite!

As Richter said when finally allowed to take out Quaid, “It’s about goddam time!” Looking forward to seeing what they can do.

TBH I would have assumed there was a Women’s rampage already.

Thank goodness equality has prevailed and women get the same opportunity to smash themselves up for armchair MTBers entertainment…

I think the most interesting aspect is that something which shouldn’t really be ‘news’ is news.
