Cycling UK Seeks Trustees: Could it be you?

by 1

Cycling UK is seeking new trustees, and is hoping to attract applications from a diverse range of backgrounds to support its work from 2024 through to 2027. You do need to be a Cycling UK Member to apply, but we know that many of you are. Since rebranding from the CTC to Cycling UK in 2016, it has done much to shake off the idea that it’s all about beards and panniers. In fact, Cycling UK and the CTC before it have a long history of campaigning for cyclist’s rights, whatever their gender or background. Many of you may have benefitted from their support if you’ve been involved in a collision on the road through their ‘Incident Line’ legal advice. In recent years Cycling UK has been pushing for better off-road access, establishing a range of new long distance routes, and supporting the Trails for Wales campaign. This year will see them seek to reignite that campaign and push for the Welsh Government to deliver on the proposals that were put forward and then stalled during the pandemic.

If all of that sounds like something you’d be interested in supporting and steering into the future, then perhaps being a Trustee is for you. You don’t need to be the fastest or most technically capable bike rider – it’s all about having a passion for cycling and its benefits, plus some useful skills that can support the charity’s work.

Here’s a bit more info:

Cycling UK is specifically looking for candidates who are able to demonstrate strategic capability in one or more of the following skills, qualities and characteristics:

  1. Public policy / national campaigning
  2. Brand development and public relations
  3. IT / Digital delivery and service design and
  4. Strategic HR and change management.

By joining Cycling UK as a trustee, you’ll be joining a passionate team who dare to imagine a country where parents happily encourage their children to cycle to school, where everyone has access to safe routes and has the skills to cycle with confidence. We have nearly 145 years’ experience of supporting cyclists and campaigning for their rights. We know you share our vision and your love and passion for cycling will lead the way for others to follow.

We’re looking for new trustees to help steer our strategy for 2024-27. Together we can enable millions more people to cycle for a happier, healthier future.

Cycling UK is recruiting new trustees to our 2024-27 board to help direct Cycling UK’s strategy, enabling millions more people to cycle.

We are keen to have as diverse and inclusive a board as possible, with people coming from a wide range of backgrounds, places and perspectives. We welcome applications from younger people and under-represented groups in cycling including ethnic minority groups.

To apply, submit your application form by 9am on Monday 3 July 2023.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

Probably not as an old white male I would be unlikely to add any diversity to the mix and have few skills that they are look for other than I absolutely love to ride my bikes.
