2022 Absa Cape Epic Stage 1 – LIVE

1st Stage: Lourensford Wine Estate – Lourensford Wine Estate. Distance: 92 km. Climbing: 2850m

The first marathon stage of the 2022 Absa Cape Epic leaves nowhere to hide. Scaling Kingโ€™s Climb is the first order of the day. A brutally long and steep ascent from Lourensford Wine Estate to the heights of the Helderberg Mountains, it will stretch the field for the long Red Route descent of the Helderberg Trails. Following soon after are the virgin trails through Ernie Els and Alto wines which traverse the foothills of the Helderberg towards Dornier. Once inside Dornierโ€™s boundaries playful singletracks provide an adrenaline boost ahead of the dayโ€™s most challenging climb, Die Nek. Crossing Die Nek takes the teams back into Lourensford, where a final brutal climb and scintillating singletrack challenge and reward await on the way to the stageโ€™s finish line.

STW Hold My Mug

Because you don’t drink just any old beer.
This is our BIG mug. Holds 443ml which is enough for one of those really strong craft ales that they don’t even serve in pints. Or just a massive brew!

Singletrack Owner/Publisher

Mark has been riding mountain bikes for over 30 years and co-owns Singletrack, where he's been publisher for 25 years. While his official title might be Managing Director, his actual job description is "whatever needs doing" โ€“ from wrangling finances and keeping the lights on to occasionally remembering to ride bikes for fun rather than just work. He's seen the sport evolve from rigid forks to whatever madness the industry dreams up next, and he's still not entirely sure what "gravel" is. When he's not buried in spreadsheets or chasing late invoices, he's probably thinking about his next ride.
