Today sees Specialized offer people another way they can buy one of its bikes. Namely, consumer direct via Specialized Ship to Home option.
That’s right. Order online, wait for a bit and then Specialized bike arrives at your house in a box not-quite-ready-to-ride. The new option is called ‘Ship to Home’.
There is also another way of getting your new Spesh delivered to you. And that’s by a ‘professional technician’ employed by Specialized. This option is called ‘Specialized Delivery’.
The move may not be massively surprising to a lot of industry watchers, but it is definitely significant that one of the Big Brands is ‘going direct’.
Remember the gossip about rumours that Trek were going to offer direct-sales? We do. Our servers are only just recovering from the traffic.
Here’s a bit more about how the options will work in practice.
Ship to Home
This probably requires little in the way of explanation. We’re all used to the concept of mail order bikes from brands like Canyon, YT and so on. The bike will arrive with “minimal assembly required” (think: put the handlebars into the stem, stick some pedals on). There will also be a phone line available you can talk to a ‘Rider Care Specialist’ who can try to help you, or pass you on to a nearby Specialized retailer.
- The Ship To Home service will be free.
Specialized Delivery
Your bike will be brought to you by a real live human. They will turn up at your gaff and set the bike up for you. They may even join you for a quick first ride.
- Specialized Delivery will only be available for bikes over £2500, and costs £75.
What about bike shops that stock Specialized?
Specialized explains: “your trusted Specialized retailer will be there to guide you if you prefer to shop in store and ensure that you have a great experience for a lifetime of riding.
How will warranty stuff work?
Specialized again: “Not forgetting the The Service Charter, a new initiative across our extensive retail network in which Specialized riders can access warranty service at ANY Specialized retailer, regardless of where they purchased their bike. Any warranty service will come at no cost to the rider, and the retailer will be credited for any labour they may need to do.”
This move means that consumers can choose five different ways of buying a Specialized bike.
- Local bike shop.
- Order online, collect from local bike shop.
- Order online, collect from specialist Tier 1 or Tier 2 Specialized dealership (in USA).
- Specialized Ship to Home.
- Specialized Delivery
