IXS have announced the new Xult helmet, which they hope will appeal as much to Enduro riders as it will to those riding exclusively downhill, as it’s a bit lighter and more vented than your typical DH lid.
As you’d expect, it’s festooned with acronyms and trademarks, from VORTEX(tm) (an aeration system) to FRP(tm) (a reinforced polymer shell); from EPR(tm) (an emergency release pad system) to X Matter(tm) – which are shock absorbing inserts also used in their knee pads.
It was designed in conjunction with Cedric Gracia (a man who knows a thing or two about accidents – NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH), who has retired from DH in favour of Enduro, and was after a helmet he could keep on for the climbs whilst allowing him to shred the descents.
Most importantly, though, it looks ace. You can get it in a variety of nifty colours (I like the yellow, black, blue and red one personally), it meets both European EN1078 and US C.P.S.C. standards, it weighs around 1,100g (give or take) and it’ll set you back £249.99.
Here’s a video featuring Mr Gracia explaining all with a lot of arty MTB shots:
