Sea Otter Predictions – The Oracle Speaks!

by 7

Here’s a short video, in which Our Beloved Leader Chipps (stop sniggering at the back) offers his shrewd prediction for the upcoming industryfest at Sea Otter in That There America. So, what’s soon to be the Hotness in the World of the MTB?

Speak, oh, Great One! Utter words of ineffable wisdom from your Glorious Cakehole as we cower in your presence!

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.

27+ Singular Swift coming your way for testing this week!

Is that the same as a 650b+ Swift? Have been thinking of trying that on my 29er Swift (don’t think it’ll fit in the back though.

My predictions: 11 speed XT and SLX, Di2 XT, and an 11-42 Shimano 11 speed cassette.

I reckon you’re on course with the 11speed XT – given the usual pattern of Shimano trickle down. Di2 XT? It took a few years for road Ultegra to electrify, so I’m not sure about that one yet.

Smacks of desperation by the cycling industry to invent something else to convince us that everything we’ve invested in is obsolete.

What parts of your bike do you think are obsolete?

My frame, given a recent attempt to upgrade fork on a 26″ resulted in a limited range of straight steerers. And no bolt through so the QR cause frame rub round berms.

But joy I’ve found a tapered head tube 26″ with bolt through…

Just thinking about the future when [650/29/27.5+]* takes over the world.
