Platypus Siouxon women’s hydration pack

Platypus says this is a pack designed for epic, all mountain adventures – so that’s exactly what I did with it.

True to the claims, the pack happily swallows up enough kit and supplies for a full day out in the wilds, while being forget-you’re-wearing-it comfortable. I was immediately taken with the durable Big Zip™//TM symbol //) SL reservoir. The detachable hose and zip lock closure make filling a doddle, likewise cleaning – I’ve emptied and not allowed water to fester in this pack, far more than any other. The bite valve is durable and tough; I’ve not yet managed to yank it off by catching it on my handlebars and the simple magnetised clip securely snaps it to the shoulder strap. As claimed, the water seems to stay fresh tasting, with minimal plastic flavouring. For an all-day epic though, I’d prefer a three litre reservoir – as opposed to the supplied two litre one. The main storage compartment is deep and roomy, with dedicated pockets for organised tool carrying. The open pouch, with its stretchy sides, allows lots of extras to be stuffed in and the side straps can carry pads and a full-face helmet. Fit-wise, the pack is snug and well designed for the female form. Waffle-textured shoulder straps and a wide waist belt keep it secure, with minimal tweaking. The ventilation channels built into the back system don’t work so well, but then I’m not convinced any packs do a better job over long days in the saddle.

Overall: Super comfy pack. Roomy but light, and well fitted for the female shape.
