Here’s a date for your diary from the team behind Stilettos On Wheels, who have sent their magic seaweed far, far into the future to guarantee you sunshine in September…
Stilettos On Wheels is a xc mountain bike race for women-only, fun is at the heart of the track design and it aims to provide something challenging for every level of rider, from beginners to expert racers. The southern round of the event in 2014 will take place at on Saturday 6th September, once again in the beautiful setting of Stanmer Park, Brighton, with a smile-inducing course swooping up and down through woodland singletrack.
The Stilettos On Wheels team is already working hard behind the scenes to make this year’s event, which will be the third, even bigger and better than ever. Due to the variety of riders taking part in the race a new Singlespeed category for any super-women riding one-geared wonders is being introduced. There will also be the usual two-hour solo category and four-hour pairs and solo categories. Following on from its success this year the Cinderella lap for any riders who just want to have a go at one lap of the course will continue and there will be prizes for this category too!
Because at Stilettos On Wheels HQ we think that every woman who completes the Stilettos On Wheels race is a champion every finisher will continue to receive a special medal, but for 2014 there will also be extra prizes for the top five riders in each category. Many of our regular sponsors have already signed up to support the event for this year and we’ve already been promised some really cool biking prizes, one more incentive for that winter training.
Unfortunately, due to lack of numbers the northern round of the event will not be happening in 2014. This does mean further to travel for any intrepid northerners still wanting to take part in the event, but on the plus side the Stilettos On Wheels team will be able to focus all their attention on making the Brighton race super-duper fantastic. The Stilettos On Wheels events use a professional chip timing system so supporters and pairs can keep track of times and positions throughout the event and there will also be an amazing photographer on hand to make sure riders can get photographic evidence of how rad they looked racing round the course! Plans for next year’s arena facilities include a range of demo bikes for riders to trial during the event, bike maintenance area, physio clinic for pre- and post-ride leg rubs, and an expo of women-specific bike kit and all other things bike related. There are also whispers about a pop-up vintage tea and cake stall to provide refreshments to both racers and their supporters.
