The Hope XC Series is back for 2013!

Brownbacks Racing are delighted to announce the return of their highly-acclaimed Hope Technology cross country race series for 2013. Now in its fifth year, this is grassroots mountain bike racing at its very best. And once again, we bring you the best in partnership with the best; our series sponsor, Hope Technology and our good friends at Leisure Lakes, Big Bear Bikes and many others.

The Brownbacks ethos has always been about introducing racing to as many people as possible. We know just how daunting a prospect ‘racing’ for the first time can be. And so once again there will be categories to cater for all abilities.

From those entering a competitive event for the first time through our ‘Have-A-Go Hero’ class to the more seasoned campaigners of the ‘Racers’ and ‘Weekend Warriors’, all of those taking part are guaranteed a unique and exciting experience. And the young ones don’t miss out. Our ‘Lads and Lasses’ class takes care of the future of our sport whilst the more ‘experienced’ riders can enjoy our 40 and 50 plus categories. The races are held on the nationally-acclaimed trails at Lee Quarry. The Rowan Sorrell-designed routes combine with our own ‘best kept secret’ off-piste sections to produce a course that really is like no other in the country. The ‘Have-A-Go-Hero’ course snakes around the heart of the quarry, presenting riders with exciting but realistic challenges. The main course is technical in the truest sense of the word, combining thrilling descents with punishing climbs to produce grins and grimaces in equal measure. To keep things fresh, no two courses are ever the same. The distinctive nature of the Quarry’s trails mean that even those returning year after year find something fresh and different on every visit. Everything is rideable and tested by our own team of elite (no skills, where’s the pub) social riders and being based in a quarry means that spectators are spoilt for choice when it comes to vantage points at a venue where the weather rarely spoils the party and mud is virtually unknown.

Staggered starts and a common finish mean that the races are truly ‘inclusive’. You may not have the legs of the speedsters but you’re guaranteed to feel part of the experience and the last rider on the course always gets the biggest cheer when they finish.

The 2013 races kick off on the 2nd of June.

The fun continues through the summer (remember those?) on the 7th of July and 8th of September and ends with the series finale on the 13th of October.

Pre-entry for the entire series not only guarantees riders a healthy discount on the price and allows free access to our coaching sessions at the Quarry provided by fully-qualified instructors.

We don’t just pay lip service to being ‘grassroots’. At Brownbacks we want to help riders improve their skills and increase their confidence where it matters. On the trails. From mastering the basics to refining existing skillsets, the structured sessions make ‘racing’ a reality for all. And that is what it’s all about.

Brownbacks is a non-profit enterprise run by volunteers who believe in giving back to the sport and the community through organising the race series, supporting the local kids MTB club and making donations to local charities. We are always on the lookout for more people to help with marshalling and organising the races so there are ways for everyone to get involved.

If you’re already a convert to the cause, we can’t wait to see you again.

Nervous novice? Don’t just think about racing. Do it. With us.

You’re guaranteed a warm welcome at the Quarry and a day you’ll never forget for all the right reasons.
