Tuesday Treats 12: Kinetic Cycles

by 2

In Tuesday Treats this week we are settling ourselves into what is commonly known as the ‘back garden of Britain’.  Welcome to Welwyn Garden City.  We’ve plonked ourselves on a bike-sized lounger to take a look at Kinetic Cycles. As well as being a premier Specialized, Mondraker, Genesis, Moda and Singular dealer, they’ve also got bearded wonderment in spades and a nice feminine touch for all your biking needs.

As with all our Premier Dealers, they’re lovely and generous too – this week Kinetic have offered up a great selection of casual gear from their friends at Fox Racing, including t-shirts, hoodie, socks and various other bits (mens or ladies flavours!)

This week, we introduce KINETIC CYCLES

Kinetic Cycles in Welwyn...

The shop is owned by partners Jon and Emma. Jon explains: We’re based in (always sunny) Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire; perfectly situated for a pretty quick ride into London one way and a lengthy ride out into the countryside the other! You choose. We’ve also got a mechanic and the obligatory Saturday (and Sunday) Boy. We recently celebrated our 6 month anniversary, although a lot of the time it feels we’ve been here for years.

What’s your current best-selling/hottest product?

Currently we have a lot of 29ers and Brooks saddles going out of the door, often together. GoPro cameras have been popular over the summer and as to be expected, a lot of winter clothing!

Which product/brand does every staff member have on their bike?

Big Wheels and Wide Bars are the order of the day!

What was the last custom build you did?

A Singularly nice bike...

We finished a Yeti SB66 with BOS suspension and a Singular Gryphon with 700c wheels and Alfine hub, all on the same day, does that count?

Tell us something about your shop/staff that no one knows…

I have only once shaved off my beard in 8 years – and for the next week, no-one recognised who I was. There have also been instances where certain staff members have forgotten to bring in various items of clothing leading to days spent walking round with bike clothing being substituted for it. I’ll leave that up to your imagination as to who it was – (but I can tell you there is no greater hell than having to wear a pair of bibshorts for 12 hours with jeans over the top!)

Is there a regular shop ride or forthcoming event you think our readers should know about?

We’re actually about to start a casual MTB on Saturday mornings, so drop us a line at info@kineticcycles.co.uk with your details if you’d like to be included in the group e-mail.  No pressure but we’ll keep you in the loop.

Popped to see see John today to collect a jersey.
    Nice guy, nice shop.

Kinetic is a brilliant little shop, and Jon’s a bit of a star. He helped us out with a custom build Singular Swift for my girlfriend and is always on hand with a jar of bits when I need to bodge a thing to a whatsit. The shop is always busy, which is nice to see, and the range gets bigger every time I go in!
All I need now is the folding to buy the Moda Motif in the window….
