Time (and space) is running out if you fancy entering the legendary Benromach Ten Under The Ben endurance race on the slopes of Ben Nevis. Held on the 26th May in the ‘Outdoor Capital’ of Fort William, the race will see riders taking on a challenging ten mile loop of natural and man made singletrack over the course of ten hours, all set in spectacular Highland scenery.
For the first year ever, Benromach Distillery and No Fuss have made a special call for teams of local pub, hotel and cafe mountain biking enthusiasts to sign up to the contest, which could see them crowned best cycling team of their kind in the country.
Organisers No Fuss Events say it’s not all about winning either: “It’s about team work and having a good time with friends, not to mention cycling one of Britain’s top mountain bike courses with breath-taking views.
“Thousands of riders from all over the UK and the rest of the world, including New Zealand and Canada, have experienced the awesome course on some fantastic trails within Forestry Commission Scotland’s Leanachan Forest.”
David Urquhart, Joint Managing Director at Gordon & MacPhail, proprietors of Benromach Distillery, who are sponsoring the event for the fifth consecutive year, said: “As the very first of the No Fuss 10 hour endurance races this event has earned a huge reputation as one of the biggest and best. We’re proud to have been sponsoring it for many years and are gearing up to competing in the event with our own Benromach team later this month. We’ll also be there to ensure participants get an opportunity to sample Benromach and win spot prizes.”
David (Spook) Murno, partner from No Fuss Events said: “The event has proved immensely popular, attracting both novice and experts to take on the challenge as individuals or teams. If you have not already signed up for this year’s 10 Under the Ben event then I would urge you to do so as soon as possible.
The entry list is filling fast. All participants can look forward to witnessing the most spectacular views.”
Located on the outskirts of Forres, Benromach is Speyside’s smallest working distillery. Only two experienced distiller’s hand-craft Benromach using the finest Scottish barley and pure spring water from the nearby Romach Hills. Specially selected casks are then filled with the new make spirit before being left to mature at the distillery for many years.
