Sapphire Waterproof Jacket
Price: £84.99

Waterproof jackets have always annoyed me when doing physical activities. I’ve always had trouble finding the right fit, feel and temperature. However, I found this jacket to have a comfortable fit and is surprisingly breathable without a ‘boil in the bag’ feeling. Thanks to the mesh liner it’s even nice on the skin if you have a short sleeve top on underneath. The length of the jacket was just right for riding and I’ve worn it happily for other sports too. It’s got full waterproof zips that have stayed smooth. It also has two handy front pockets, a roll away adjustable hood and adjustable hem, cuffs and collar. It’ll pack into a rucksack easily so it’ll always be to hand when the weather turns. The only fault I can find with the jacket is that this one lacks underarm ventilation despite being advertised as having it – although as I generally run quite cool (and smell like roses), it’s not a feature I missed.
Overall: An able all-rounder, good value and good looking too.
Roam XC Gloves
Price: £22.99
From: Polaris Apparel
Although these are men’s gloves the extra small gloves fitted my feminine hands just nicely. They feel nice on and have a breathable lightweight back with a single layer palm for maximum feel. Laser cut holes for airflow across the palm and micromesh fingers inserts reduce your chances of sweaty palms on hot days (if you can remember what they were like). Failing that, they have silicon grips on the palm and fingertips. These gloves have a stretch neoprene cuff, which is comfy and holds the glove in place nicely although the neoprene can get a bit warm which is at odds with the light and airy style of the glove.
Overall: Lightweight and comfortable gloves for cross country riding.
