Singular Pegasus Titanium
From: Singular Cycles

We had this bike in Fresh Goods last week but Sam from Singular sent in a few bits and bobs so we can build up the versatile frame in a number of different guises. We’ve made a few changes this week. We’ve removed the carbon wheels and Dugast tub tyres and put on a standard MTB wheelset, we switched the fork to a bolt-through 29er reba and replaced the stem and bar combination. There’s also some added dirt!

Fox Suspension Fluid
From:
Mojo

We reviewed a pair of Fox 831 forks in the current issue with their travel set at 100mm. The next task is to run them at 120mm. So Fox sent us in all the fluids and instructions. It appears to be quite a simple process – we shall see! RRP £16.99 Suspension 7 fluid,   £9.99 Float Fluid

Saracen CR1 Jump Bike

We’ve had a Saracen jump bike in as our next Impulse Bike (more to come soon) and after playing about on it for a while we’ve decided to change a few of the standard features. The original 25T chainring was far too spinny and so has been eplaced by a 30T Gusset one (above). We also felt the OEM bars (although a lovely colour!) were too low so we’re trying some high rise Funn bars on there. The supplied grips spun and squirmed on (painted) bars quite  bit so we’ve put a pair of Bontrager Lock-On grips on there.

Me thinks thats a Middleburn HT2 compatible external BB crankset, the caption kinda implies otherwise and doesn’t mention the new config?

? its says they are for external BBs…

    anyways, i’ve a set and they’re lovely – light and stiff 🙂

have to say though, they look far better in black…

    😀

I edited the story to include a bit more/clearer info 🙂

Who is seriously going to pay £600 for wheels with Bontrager scribbled all over them?

Any details on cost and availability on the middleburn craks?

    cranks even, doh

doof_doof – they’re a better wheelset, and better value than many others available….

ruminant – £200 for cranks and spider – no rings or BB.

i got mine through my LBS – they just rang middleburn and sorted it over the phone. they didn’t originally have an account with middleburn, but that was no problem.

Saris Solo may finally be a solution to carrying the bike on the Mazda. Good news.

The Middleburns appear to have a spline at both ends – are they effectively 3-piece?

Another 29er? Anyone would think the winds of change were blowing through the ‘different-so-we-hate-it’ corridors of STW.
Unless you find them all complete poop that is.

I wonder if Middleburn be doing them with the five bolt spider?

Reason… a five bolt spider can run a 20 tooth granny for those super steep climbs up here where I live.

    Another 29er?
Yep, we have a 29er test in the next issue of Singletrack, plus I have a Lynksey long-termer that I’ll be building up as soon as I get a minute. There’s still only one member of staff here over 5ft 9in though… 🙂

hmm. The Saris Solo might be handy for her indoors’ motor.
But what stops the bike from banging on the bumper?

Who is seriously going to pay £600 for wheels with Bontrager scribbled all over them?
Lots of people. What’s wrong with Bontrager?

    “‘different-so-we-hate-it’ corridors of STW.”

    ?

    Chipps
“There’s still only one member of staff here over 5ft 9in though… ”

Im 5’11” and happy to volunteer services if case you ever get investigated by the ‘height discrimination employment police’

middleburns are essentially 3 piece – the axle is a separate bit of metal from the cranks.

the NDS crank comes attached with some VERY strong loctite to the axle – i was told not even to try and un-do it – something would break before i got them apart, i was told.

i think its something to do with difficulties in bonding the axle to the crank, which is why they went 3 piece.

very simple to fit though, they’ve a similar fitting method to XTR, i believe.

no idea on the spider front, but they are very nice people to deal with 🙂

sorry to put the middleburns down, something wrong with the look and finish they very much look like the ones i had in the 90’s kinda plain jane looking and £200 with no rings or bb makes my fsa carbons a steal the retro riders will love them

More importantly, who let the 3 year old child loose with the crayons on the bottlerocket? Thats the worst paintjob i’ve seen in a long time. I’m going to stop stressing about what colour to get my new five in now and just be thankful it doesn’t look like that one!!!

That bottle rocket looks fantastic. It just scream ‘fun’ at you.

Is that a rear brake on the front of the Singular Pegasus Titanium?

Are you going to be reviewing the Thule Raceway Platform?

“More importantly, who let the 3 year old child loose with the crayons on the bottlerocket? Thats the worst paintjob i’ve seen in a long time”

I think it’s the best I’ve seen in ages.

    No accounting for taste eh?

    STW

Can you start putting the description above the pics so i know what im looking at as im looking at it and not having to guess til ive scrolled down.

    no, don’t!

Hungry Monkey failed to mention that the Middleburns hit his frame on both sides and on speaking to middleburn it appears that “some axles are a bit longer or shorter than others”.

Anyone over there heard of tolerances?

Just get something proper that doesn’t look like these-

    http://www.rutlandcycling.com/19594/KF-Crank-Arm-L-H-170mm-Polished-Alloy.html?referrer=froogle1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=pid19594

perhaps i was giving them a little grace and a chance to rectify the problem, which they have done so?

oh, and they lightly knocked on one side, not 2.

“get something proper that doesn’t look like these”

    YAWN

still only one member of staff here over 5ft 9in though…

    Freaks 😉

Is that a rear brake on the front of the Singular Pegasus Titanium?

No, but it is untrimmed out of the box length. I wanted to let the ST guys experiment with different bars and stems unrestricted by brake hose length.

I have found the rhythm elite wheels to be very fragile, wonder what difference the size/alloy makes? Having said that they are extremely cheap second hand with a constant supply of trek buyers being dubious!

the bottle rocket looks like its been left in a freshly painted room and got splattered

loving the retro-rebirth paintjob on the transition:-)
