Hot through the doors at Singletrack HQ is this Commençal Super 4 VIP Carbon Factory Frameset. We tested a Super 4 last year and thought it was a speedy bike and a lot of fun to boot. The only downside was a front end that felt overwhelmed when things got fast and loose down hill. Commençal have been listening and for 2010 they have upped the travel at the front from 100mm to 120m and, in the case of this here Factory Super 4 VIP Carbon they’ve switched to, yes, you guessed it, carbon. The other big news is Commençal are offering some of their frames in a Factory Frameset package, which means you get the frame, shock, forks, headset, seatpost, bars and stem all in the same box.
French tickler Albért, from distributors Madison, explains the thinking:
“It’s a way to make the frameset/custom build option more desirable but most importantly, affordable. They’re stock/ranged as a complete package (frame, forks, headset, seatpost, bars & stems) and will be available alongside the full bikes at any Commençal dealer for the public to buy. The whole idea behind it is to pass on some of the saving Commençal are able to access through their OEM supplier accounts to the end user. The spec choice is suitably high-end and there are no ‘pony’ parts – Fox forks, Easton, Thomson, Sunline, etc. Basically the same high-end parts as you’d spec normally when building your ideal custom build but bundled together with the frame to help pass on some saving.”
The Super 4 VIP Carbon frame on its own retails for £1899.99 and the Factory Frameset option is £2599.99, so for £700 you get a Fox F120 RLC fork, headset, Easton EC90 seatpost, Easton MonkeyLite SL bars and RaceFace Deus stem. As Bert says, all good stuff that we’d be happy to find on any bike.
This one is destined to be Sim’s long term test bike for 2010, so keep an eye out for more on it soon.

can I be all smug and say that I had a test ride on one of these about 3 weeks ago ;)
Actually it was the meta 5 carbon I tested.
In that case, no, you can’t be smug :-)
Those forks are just slightly the wrong colour and you know it.
I’m hiding the tears.
That soft focus makes everything look so much sexier. Want.
That was my target before I went for the Blur. Looks nice. Should be a hoot.
Yummy!!!!!!
The local LBS got their stock in a few weeks back, so I’ve eyeing this up everytime I walk in. Someone bought one the day after they got it in and promptly went and won that w/end in their catergory too.
Under 11kgs build up for the complete bike from Commencal – what kind of build are you gonna go for Sim?
