Road Bike Mayhem

From: Road.cc… You don’t have to be a mountain biker to appreciate that Mountain Mayhem is something special. Up until now though you did have to be one if you wanted to enjoy its unique festival atmosphere: not next year though, because the organisers are adding a new 100Km sportive in to the mix.

The Kiron 100Km Sportive will be sponsored by new sportive bike brand, Kiron and it’s a sportive with a difference – for Britain anyway. While it will be a challenge the aim is more to give everyone taking part a good day out on their bike more in the manner of continental sportives and randonees which are about enjoyment rather than trying to break you.

Singletrack Owner/Publisher

Mark has been riding mountain bikes for over 30 years and co-owns Singletrack, where he's been publisher for 25 years. While his official title might be Managing Director, his actual job description is "whatever needs doing" – from wrangling finances and keeping the lights on to occasionally remembering to ride bikes for fun rather than just work. He's seen the sport evolve from rigid forks to whatever madness the industry dreams up next, and he's still not entirely sure what "gravel" is. When he's not buried in spreadsheets or chasing late invoices, he's probably thinking about his next ride.

  1. Not exactly new – there was supposedly a sportive there last year (though I have a feeling the take up wasn’t very good – was it even cancelled due to lack of numbers?)

  2. No Sportif was planned for last year. There WAS a road version of Mayhem planned ie a 24 hour road race but that was nothing to do with Mayhem other than being planned and run by the same organiser. It was also at a different venue and on a different date. It was however cancelled due to lack of numbers.

this sentance makes me smile, for some reason
sounds good to me 🙂 more bikes, more people, bigger and better.

  4. “I haven’t worked out what the difference is to any other sportif.”
Sportive (take note, Mark). From the wording I can only assume it will be flatter than most events in this country are (most seem to drag you up every possible hill going, the steeper the better). Might seem a bit tricky given the location, but you could actually do a surprisingly flat ride from there.
