Just a quick check, but are M965 XTR freehubs titanium? It doesnt feel like an Aluminium alloy, but equally I cant believe a top of the range hub would have a steel freehub body.
Retail listings seem ambiguous.
secondly, assuming it's titanium Im guessing then that there would be no problem using a stamped singlspeed sprocket on the body rather than one of the wider footed ones like a groove armada or a surly since the steel cog isnt going to tear into a titanium freehub is it?
Yes, it's ti on xtr. You'll still get some gouging (I did on my Hope ti body), but no where near as bad as ali bodies.
cheers.
got some comfort here on spec: http://www.totalcycling.com/index.php/product/parts_accessories/hubs_mtb/hbdxtr.html
The drive ratio will be 36:20 on a 29er so hopefully wont put too much torque through the freehub splines.
