    What happens when your X9 develops too much slop to shift, and your X0 (that has been donated to you, thanks Hamishthecat) has a smashed cage?

    Combine them to make somthing that might disintegrate in the middle of nowhere.

    Good work! That’ll likely last for years whilst everything else on your bike breaks…

    All SRAM rear mechs are Frankemechs IMHO.

    There’s not been a lovley rear mech since the M732 short cage.

    Awesome Johnny, it’ll just slice any rock in half that it comes into contact with!

    It was a stout bit of heather that did for it in the first place 🙂
    The second carbon cage x0 I’ve broken. Won’t be buying another. Even second hand, just too expensive.

    Nice work Mike. It has a certain, er utilitarian, charm…

    Couldn’t you have trimmed the corners off a bit?

    Good bodging. I like it.

    I have to say this shows the difference between us and the Yanks. I’m sure a Yank would show a step by step guide to making a new cage using carbon sheeting. We just bang some old hacksaw blade in it with somme glue!

    Is it possible to actually seperate the carbon cage plate from the mech knuckle on these?

    Yes, you can seperate the carbon cage plate thing on the X0, the X9 however seems to have been made as one unit, so it had to be cut out (completely destroying the mech)..

    Shot of the X9-X0 ‘Splice’ interface beneath the steel;

    Corners trimmed a bit @ Hamish’s request;
