Listening to the radio earlier and they made mention of ‘A New World War’ in relation to escalating tensions between Russia and NATO member Turkey…

Are we in the early stages of WW3?

No, too much money is involved these days.
Unless the markets break down and many massive multinational companies fall we will never have a war like our pasts.

    Yes, I do hope so.

Weapons industry led initiative, clearly they’re not screwing the governments for enough money.

Buy shares in Quinetic etc etc

Buy shares in large pharmaceutical firms too whilst yer at it.

I was sitting down to eat my dinner (pork chops cooked in a fancy halogen air fryer thingummy, with mash, gravy, carrots, bit of mustard and horseradish) and there was mention of ‘A New World War’ on a Radio 4 analysis of the situation between Russia and Turkey.

    Only in your world.

Believe you me, if it was my world, the arms industry wouldn’t be in a position to create wars for their products…

(and the people who make up the governments who are supposed to protect their citizens wouldn’t profit from the arms industry)

No, but don’t discount the serious internal political problems a lot of the interested parties in Syria have.
The House of Saud would be a key player in any further rising tensions as their monetary deficit coupled with the rising power of Iran is alarming the ruling elite.
You are more likely to see a regional State sponsored Shia v Sunni civil war which will drive the oil price up and help Moscow out of its hole!!

The Russians are far too busy bombing children and medical staff in field hospitals to get involved in WW3; those targets don’t shoot back so there’s no risk involved for the Russian military.

Are you sure they didn’t say “new COLD war”? That has certainly been suggested.

Saudi Arabia has agreed to freeze oil production at it’s January level. This probably means that the oil price will rise. It’s a very long way from WWIII it’s much more likely to be something like the cold war with the US Russia and other global powers which may include some global multinationals (behind the scenes) fighting a proxy war in the middle east. Who knows how long it could go on?

Alex Salmond, when asked how he would react to a Trump presidency, said:

“I’d buy a ticket to Antarctica, because it’s the only place the radiation wouldn’t reach”…

I wonder if Trump and Tommy Sheridan are related, they have the same tan.

Not just the Russians, our so-called allies like a bit of this too.

suppose the syrian civil war could be analogous to the spanish civil war, which was the precursor to wwII with socialists jihadists travelling to fight the evil dictator with the backing of another evil dictator who is annexing neighboring countries.

I’d have though that if Syria was to escalate it would have done so by now.

The Arab Spring was 5 years ago now. I predict another 5 years of the status quo, Assad to be toppled internally by a general, a very quick and dirty end to the civil war, MSF/Red Cross/UNICEF call for war crimes trials, other governments shrug, history is written by the victors and business as usual is resumed.

Mmmm, I reckon we will see several generations of Sunnis vs. Shias.

They wont stop killing each other till Mohammed comes back to tell them to pack it in.

Wont Iran with its sanctions lifted want as much foreign money as possible, so it will keep selling oil cheap ?

Is this the news that CRC and Wiggle are merging? 😆

It’s not a good situation, but can the world afford to destroy everything in one press of a button.

So the situation’s a bit like it was just before WWI, then? http://www.bl.uk/world-war-one/articles/europe-before-1914

Any new world war will be a short one for two reasons:

    1) Someone lets off a nuke.

    2) A conventional war will run out of munitions and supplies in about 4 weeks

The days of mobilising a whole countries manufacturing capability (assuming it still has any) to fight a “war of attrition” are long gone imo

@maxtorque you’re ignoring the opportunity for the arms industry and others to make vast profits

    hi jive missed you.
no it won’t be a third world war but define terms it will continue to be a war involving much of the world but in a very limited area.

Nobody wants or knows how to fight or can afford a big global war nor i suspect does enough of the kit actually work.

We may get a new and tedious cold war out of it though.

the “new cold war” has been going on for some time. it seems to be the game Puttin is playing, just because western governments think its not does not mean it aint. it’ll be an easy step into a big war if we are not careful.

    Duh

The war is not due to happen until AI is perfected, at which time the working class can be culled, to make way for robots servants and leave the planet nice for the Toff overlords.

I remember watching Threads went it was first broadcast. Scariest thing was that 10 years later the city was still just rubble. No rebuilding. People more concerned with finding food and comfort than doing anything else.

Not surprising really. I just want to pissed and right underneath it when the bomb drops.
