Just had the usual M&S one and I don’t think it’s as good as last year.
Can you even get a half decent one for a fiver?

Will make it my mission to eat as many as I can before Christmas, to seek out maximum tastiness for my money.

These are the best of the mass produced ones, Motta are good too. Helpfully I’ve no idea if you can get them in the UK.

Morrisons is 2 quid. They bake em everyday. At the end of the day they are often 1 quid. They do me.

Lidl. About the only thing I buy from there. Tried the £15 posh ones but lidl every time. Very moist, not over sweet and plenty of peel/ fruit.

Basically, for ‘ethnic’ Xmas cake, get yerself to Lidl/Aldi.

Lidl do about 4 different Stollens now. Plus their poppyseed one is £1.99 vs Waitrose £4.50.

I was drunkenly flipping round the channels last weekend, and saw this:

The ones that Corrieries in Stirling sell are less than £5 and make awesome bread and butter pudding, I know because I made it a couple of weeks ago and even my mother in law had two portions.

You’ve not really thought that one through, have you?

    Let’s look at the facts.

    – Recommendations for Lidl.
    – For a cake worth less than a fiver.
    – Bread pudding

I bet your monocle pops out when people discuss profiteroles 8)

If you live in/near manchester, J17 of the M60 head towards bury – Roma Deli, properly brilliant genuine items for the £5 mark, even my italian Father-in-Law likes them

the Aldi Lidl ones are good too – not the morrisons ones, I tried them and they are stodgy and made with cheap flour

Don’t know how much it was but I had some from Waitrose the other day which was very nice and I usually find them a bit meh until you make them into bread and butter pudding.

Not quite yet… OP, this should give you all you need and with another bag of strong white bread flour you’ll have enough to bring the costs down under a fiver a piece.
