What you actually gonna use it for?

Proper offroad, or more of a road bike that you can hop off kerbs? Or somewhere inbetween?

You fussed about having discs or not?

Yeh that's my thinking regarding discs , plus because its not 'technically' a road bike I don't 'technically' have to wear Lycra surely ?!?!

As its not a Cx bike you want ( not racing + not CX to my mind) you need something that will deal with good old fashioned "roughstuff" .
Just ensure it has mudgaurd eyes AND room for biggish tyres. Discs are nice in this context as stopping will be useful. Decide your price limit and see which looks nice. Me? Avoid anything with exposed cables at the front coz that looks tat.

Had an interesting chat with some bloke this aft, and he was saying there are not really any cross specific rims out there yet for discs, so you end up with a 29er rim, which is a bit much for a cross bike.

Extra weight to be lugging around if your on the road.

My company uses Cyclescheme which only gives the option of getting a bike from Halfords, hence that's where I got it.

Which scheme does your employer use?

I've got a Tricross and love it. Nothing to compare it against I admit, but it seems a great bike.
