[Closed] Parcelforce assault with lazer? any advice on the law concerning this?

[#3964781]

Just had someone from parcel force come to deliver a package and hit me in the face/eyes with the lazer scanner, then when I asked if it was a lazer scanner I was hit with it in the eyes again, at this point the driver apologized and yet managed to hit me with it again.

So 3 times so far, he walks away down the stairs and I say to him what the **** do you think you're doing. He turns around hits me with the lazer again in the eyes and says sorry there is something wrong with this!

My questions is what's my legal stand point on this?

The problem with our society is that I would end up in court over it, however I am looking to prove this if I can!

Hmmm,watching this thread with interest.

I was hit in the eye this morning with a laser.

Admittedly it was the retina scanner.

Yesterday too.

Though that was the supermarket self-checkout scanner.

will it have left any trace on my eyes

get someone to take a flash photograph of your face.

If your eyes look red it means some of the laser light is still in them trying to get out.

Well, there's absolutely NO EXCUSE to scan someone THERE! I'd complain...in writing.

Was he wearing a black suit, black tie and sunglasses. Have you seen any aliens recently?

Actually, forget I asked, you probably can't remember.

Typing stuff on the internet probably won't help your case. Being able to see after having your eyes lazored out doesn't stand up very well in court.

Barcode scanners do just that anyway, they're constantly jumping around trying to scan a barcode. Since I'm anticipating you don't have a barcode in your eyes, it won't be interested in them and will go and look elsewhere.

If I were you I would stick with the Royal Mail.

They don't use those dangerous Laser Scanners normally, and the service is very good

Especially considering the very low prices.

He has to scan your retina to make sure he's delivering to the right person...obviously.

Quite a confrontational chap aren't you. This stuff seems to happen to you quite frequently. It does rather look like you rub people up the wrong way, maybe time to address your own issues.

So are these lazer's dangerous?

They often have sharks attached to them, which I reckon is pretty freakin dangerous.

Pedantic part: As others have pointed out they are lasers (it's an acronym - look it up).

And no they aren't dangerous.

I doubt it. You don't see the checkout workers, well not the day shift ones, at Tesco with their faces melted off.

You could borrow my Buzz Light year to attack the Evil Postie Zorg using Buzz's super powerful defensive wrist mounted laser.

3 times is taking the piss.. I would've let a tyre down or hit in the stomach... Must've been something wrong with my arm, or your tyre, must be catching!

I would certainly report it... But I also know trying to get ParcelFarce to take anything seriously is like getting blood from a stone.

Was he using the laser to scan a barcode or cut the parcel in half?

Lasers must be CE certified and comply with EN60825-1:2007 in order to be legally placed on the market in the EU. You could check the scanner for a CE mark and request a copy of the Deceleration of Conformity from the manufacturer. This should be publicly available.

In the event of a potential claim where you can prove partial loss of vision your legal team can request sight of the technical construction file to verify the claims in the DoC.

However, if he was scanning, not cutting*, it's likely a Class 2M laser, in which case you are protected by your natural blink aversion, unless you were using an optical instrument to look into the beam (magnifying glass, microscope, binoculars). Or you had matchsticks in your eyes.

Since I suspect you weren't using binoculars and probably blinked, I'd recommend you MTFU.

* If he was cutting, it'll be a Class 4 laser but should be in a sealed room and protected by interlocks.
