I’ve just landed myself a new job that requires me to get up to speed with SolidWorks (previously AutoCad) and also select a suitable workstation, can anyone point me in the right direction.
    Cheers in advance.

Check out the Solidworks website, this should give specs, but the main thing is a decent ‘approved’ graphics card with drivers that work with Solidworks.

Cheers, I’m having a look now, just thought I’d try the font of all knowledge as well to see if would save me some time.

I built a CAD system for around £500, the off the shelf systems (Dell Precisions etc) are just too pricey
    2.67ghz quad core, 8gb ram, 1TB hd, 700w psu
the main kit for a CAD system is the GPU, I went for a Nvidia Quadro FX580,
most if it I bought on ebay,
runs Solidworks 2010 fine, but I also use it for a lot of rendering in 3ds max,

However if you are running an older version of Solidworks, say 2006, which is all you need to give to grips with the programme, you can use a PC with a much lower spec
