    To strip an alu frame

It’s the paint type you have to get it right for, nitromors works well on oil/solvent based paints, not so good on water based paints or powdercoat.

Just don’t use caustic/drain cleaner as it strips the aluminium as well.

Its not powdercoat – just paint

A £20 note, and your local powdercoaters with an acid bath.

Just use nitromors then, it’ll either be dead easy and the paint will just fizz off, or it’ll bubble a bit and then take hours of painstakeing work to get the rest off.

Before you start, just be aware that for the cost of a tin of nitromors and 3-4 rattle cans (primer, paint, paint, laquer) you could pay someone ~£40 and have it all done for you in powdercoat. Or unless there’s a reason for stripping the paint off, just sand it down and apply a fresh coat of paint.

If you want to do it yourself, ‘green’ Nitromors is best. Last year when I did mine it still contained DCE and methanol.

Budget about 10 hours and keep alot of newspaper or similar nearby.

DCE/DCM is illegal in consumer products within Europe now IIRC.

Had a small anount of old green tin Nitromors (wall paper paste colour and consistancy) which did as per taka’s first picture.
New green Nitromors (green tin green Swarfega type consistancy) doesn’t appear to do anything, if there anything that’s as effetive as old Nitromors?

Peel Away 1 is very heavy duty, but it will be cheaper to get someone else to do it, as suggested above.

No contest! Unless you value your time at less than £2 per hour…

Hmm couple of hours to get to and from powder coaters in normal working hours, plus petrol to get there … or stuff I can get from B&Q that I pass every day to and from work.

Bit of elbow grease and some time I have.

and ffs don’t do it in a plastic bath! radiator paint can only go so far to filling and disguising the gouges where it bubbled up (In my defence, I was drunk and had recently moved from a property with an old enamel bath)
