I currently have a Crud Catcher but that only catches the trailcrap coming from behind the fork, I’m still getting some from the front too. On my sus forks I run a Mucky Nutz but on the rigid they foul the downtube.

I guess I need one of those “bang it up the steerer” types with forwards and backwards coverage.

(I find glasses impractical in the wet, they just steam up).

    Ta.

RRP are about to release a version of the Neoguard for rigid forks, I’ll prob get one rather than bother with a DIY job

Cut up an old inner tube along it’s length & wrap it around the top of the fork legs. Works for a mate of mine, though I’ve not tried it.

I use a fast fender. Looks mince, but works well.

I use the method suggested by pedalhead and it works. I have tried the plug in the head tube guards but on the rigid bike they collect a load of mud on top and extra vibration then flicks it up in the air for you too catch in your mouth.

I don’t get it, any chance of a pic?

lol. Where would sir prefer his mushed horse pooh, eyes or mouth?

It’s just an inner-tube cut to length then cut open and then wrapped round the fork legs. This has some pvc tape over it but in the past I’ve just super glued the overlap and it’s worked fine.

    This

is what happened to the motocross style one.

OK I get it, thx for that – I was imagining it wound around each leg individually … which did not compute!

I have fitted a SKS shock blade to my rigid Singular Swift. But, a Swift fork gets a bit wider as it goes down to the fork blades. So, the biggest wedge size does not fit. In the end I got a barrel of aluminium made up at work and used the hole at front and back to bolt it on. Then I filed a slot for the mounting bracket and it works really well.

I actually got an SKS shock blade and an SKS rear mudguard which is made for 29″ or trekking bikes. Not that much bigger than 26″ but really does keep me much cleaner than my mates.

Ok. Yeah I’m on a Swift too, but I don’t have a metal workshop so it’s handy to know that by default a Shockblade won’t work. Ta.

+1 for a bit of innertube.

Mines (on a singular swift fork) cut to the shape of the fork and 4 zip ties holding it in place.

I cut up a fromage frais plastic tub and zip-tied it to my Swift forks. Even permanent markered it blue. Works but it looks shit so might try the inner tube idea.

Chaps while you Swift owners are here, what tyre do you run on the front? I’ve currently got a Hans Dampf 2.35, which is nice and bouncy but man a tad heavy to push round and round.

I want the volume (or bigger if it will fit in Crests) but don’t need quite as much grips as the HDs.

Previously was on 2.25 RoRos, still have those, but wanted bigger.

I’ll do the inner-tube thing in the meantime.

Ardent 2.4 could be of interest?

2.25 Nobby on crest rims on the front and Muddy X on the back which seems good enough for South Downs slop.

I’ve emulated avdave2’s mudguard solution (pic above) by winding some gaffa tape around the top of the fork legs. It’s very fast to fit and cheap as chips!

As for durability and effectiveness – I’ll report back after a ride or 2. If we get out tonight it’ll be a good test!

I use a Shockboard- though it’s a 29er rigid fork with a 26er wheel in so the mud doesn’t fling quite the same. Great mudguards though once you get past the crappy fitting.

That Neoguard’s over-engineered. My version (the GaffaGuard all rights reserved) fits any fork of any size. And doesn’t look like a trainer bra.

Two halves of an old THE fender cut down and taped together

Now replaced with full-size THE fender mounted backwards gives total coverage. Clean face for me 🙂

GaffaGuard did a very wet ride last night. It was effective and doesn’t look any the worse for wear.
