OK, what with the weather as it is, Id like to get some footwear more suitable than my standard skate shoes/plimsolls/whatever.

So Im thinking something hiking-boot-ish, but Id also like something which doesnt look too rediculous, so I can wear them about casually too, when its not snowing/hiking about.

Dont really want to spend more than £70-80, but the less the better obviously.

Was pretty close to getting these Timberlands, but not a huge fan on the looks to be honest, look a bit rubbish for non-hiking or whatever:

more than you want to spend but i’ve just got some innov 8 400gtx boots and they’re brilliant, reet good but expensive.

I picked up a pair of merrell mid ankle boots, vibram sole and goretex liner, look pretty casual under a pair of jeans but great boots for stomping around in. Ive seen several places doing them around £80-90. Size was my issue

Nick, again, look great as walking boots, but not for casual use. Realistically these boots are going to be used for the next couple months in the snow, the odd walk throughout the year, so apart from that they’ll only be used for walkin bout town or whatever.

If you had half a notion for Timberland then Catapillar might be worth a look

They;re a slightly lighter colour than they appear in the picture, at least on my monitor. Waterproof and lovely!

I’ve found the sizing bang on… in general I’m a size 43 (only an old pair of Nike’s and a way old pair of my dad’s dress shoes disagree – oops, and a size 44 pair of early 90’s Shimano’s) and that’s exactly what I am with these.

In a similar vein, Patagonia also offer the Cabot (actually the same colour as the above boot) and the Kauri (showing on Amazon as that’s where I have found them cheapest).

After birthday shoe buying for my sister earlier this year, I’m able to say that Amazon were great with me regarding a return and swap for sizing reasons (and for Christmas returns are open until Jan 31, apparently)!

i’d second the camp fours then, love em to pieces but not tall enough or gore tex enough for the snow. wear them all year round, the sole does wear fairly quickly but then it’s uber sticky. great as a stand in climbing shoe too.
