  • Tyres oozing red stuff

    Morning all,

I fitted a brand new Maxxis tyre to my front rim yesterday. This morning I woke to discover red oily liquid oozing slowly out of the bottom of both sides of the tyre/rim edge. First of all I thought the fork was leaking damper oil but it’s definitely from inside the tyre. I put some Stans sealant in but I’ve never seen this happen before. Anyone have any idea what is happening?

888s. But truly it’s not coming from the forks. To be fiat that was my first thought too.

Wrong colour and consistency for blood, even murine.

And oddly I did think about tasting it. But sanity prevailed.

    Does Stans separate out?

stans separates to a beige colour juice, certainly nothing approaching red.

Did you inflate the tyre with a compressor?

Could be oil in the airline?

Yes I did use a compressor. Should I worry? Will I die?

Was it a maxxis beaver? Could be time of the month.

Had this happen a couple of years ago. Initially thought it was fluid from for fork or brake, but was from tyre.

No real conclusion to the cause. I used a co2 canister and thought it may have been a reaction with stans fluid, my other thought is that it was related to any washing up liquid used when sealing.

I’ve just set up a set of tubeless tyres with Stans. I’ve had the same thing (although i wouldn’t say it’s red in colour).

Dr Google suggests that it’s a normal part of the sealing process. The oily fluid is what’s left over once the latex (the white pigment in Stans fluid) has sealed something. I think.

Ok to be fair it was more the same colour as Tizer.
