I wouldn’t normally even mention it, but I can’t remember the last time I got up, came to work, and just felt comfortable. I have suffered since I was a kid, but sometimes I just wish I could go to the doctor and get my entire gastrointestinal system replaced.

Anyone on here suffer constantly and, for the most part, in silence?

I think you need to sort that out! I have acid related problems, reflux and a shatzki ring. Causes daily problems so maybe I should sort myself out too, but I like the nice things too much.

Look at your diet? It took me a while but I started to realise that I was feeling uncomfortable after most meals. Cutting right back on carbs has been a revelation for me. Might be something completely different for you but worth a try working through some alternative diets?

Ohhh, a subject close to my heart..(well stomach) I’ve just come out of surgery having a 30cm slice taken out from the top near the asophagus. Niiice, well not actually.

For years I trained/raced Road, eating bad diets back then and once stopped riding (had enough of firkin bikes) I started having indigestion problems. Now I’m a smart lad so i took control of diet and for years managed the problem on my own with the occasional bout of acid, managed by Gavison tablets.
Roll up to about 5 years ago and I started having excruciating bouts of pain, to the point of vomiting and incapacitation… after about 6hrs it would go and being bloody minded I just passed it off and worked through the problem.. until last November.. a trip to A&E in Harrogate and all sorts of tests revealed a dark patch and lumps at the top of my stomach.. So I got placed on a course of tablets Omeprazol, and told to keep an eye on it, again a couple of weeks ago it happened again and this time in Portsmouth QA they did the surgery because they thought it was Cancer.. Lucky for me it isn’t/wasn’t but the biopsy was inconclusive and they thought better to cut the crap out that leave it there.
I am now in remission and feeling very much better, as to how much better before the Op I’ve yet to get to that point.

So, conclusion.. if you have issues like this then you really do need to see a specialist and quickly, don’t MTFU thought it it really could be a lot worse than a simple bout of indigestion.

Not wanting to worry you like 😆

Well looks like stones and hard skin scarring caused by over acid production and something in the stomach acid thats particularly horrid which seems it doesn’t want to go away and I’ll be on tablets for some time to come. Over the years it’s attacked the lining and as it’s at the top of the stomach has had not only acid attacking it but also the gas too.. 😐

Could be the 7 bottles of whiskey per night and living off chinese, dunno (not really) 😆

Nah, I’m on the mend, TBH I never gave it much thought until the bouts of agonising pain reappeared, but you know what really did it for me? Well a trip to Southampton General A&E which was so shite an experience I went into my Doc’s afterwards and complained like an angry Old Man until they took what I was going through seriously.

Portsmouth QA have been exceptional and super efficient and have followed up every symptom and visit I’ve had with proper care and attention. Now my Doc’s take notice, only been 5 years complaining to them about what I’ve been going through..

Back on the bike now! Whoop.. steady as it goes though.. 😀

I had huge gastro problems after having Guillain Barre Syndrome, the consultant I was under seems to think it stems from the nerve damage caused by GBS, however, I also have a hiatus hernia.

I take lanzoprazole daily now, and it’s made a huge difference. I get hardly any acid reflux, and the episodes of sickess and diarrhoea which wrote me off for weeks at a time have almost vanished.

I do still get the odd bout, and I know about 24 hours in advance when it’s coming on, but the occasions are less so. Two other changes I’ve made are that I run/jog three times a week, and follow the 5:2 diet and use my fitness pal to fast two days a week, but i also use the calorie counter to keep under my 7 day calorie goal each week. Not sure if that’s relevant, but I’m certainly better than I was.

One of the many delights of getting older is low stomach acid, it may be worth trying apple cider vinegar preferably the one with the ‘mother’.

bb – sorry to hear what you’ve just been through and do hope that you make a full recovery. 🙂

Not stomach but had IBS for 20 years. Sometimes goes away but often in background with cramps of some sort or discomfort. So used to having diarrhea that it is just normal.

Had ultrasound last week to make sure nothing else is wrong as been having different symptoms of late but I think it’s just another facet of IBS. It’s a pain (literally) but I just have to live with it.

I have had IBS on and off for the last 20 years.

Last year was bad with at pain and bad wind for at least 4 months of the year.

Tried lots of medicine, had an MRI, blood test and stool test (which were are clear) and it still continued.

Changed jobs and the frequency and severity dropped like a stone. Stress was obviously a big thing for me.

I have also changed my diet some what though and now no longer eat hard to digest things like brocolli, raw onions, raw peppers, etc I have also been eating lots of live yoghurt to try and increase the amount of good bacteria in my gut. There is something else I take in powder form, but I forget its name.

Hope you get it sorted OP as chronic gut ache can be quite horrible at times.

My cycling buddy is a physician specialising in gastroenterology and has the most amazing knowledge of the digestive system and bowel. Approaching 60 he says there isn’t much that surprises him nowadays. I would urge anybody with the problems described to get themselves in front of a really good physician who understands the way all this works.

I remember what my consultant called my problem, he said it was gastro-colic reflex.

Also the good bacteria powder I bought was called Bimuno. If you buy it in bulk online it keeps the cost down.
