My faithful old ( +8yrs), Hope XC rear hub has developed a weird ‘catch’ nearly every revolution of the wheel. It’s not really noticeable when riding, although on big descents there’s been the odd occasion when everything has sort of started dragging.

The freehub body is quite old and tatty looking, but the bearings are new and fine. I’ve also just replaced the pawl springs as I’d assumed the problem was there (one of my cats had a wee chew on a spring at the hubs last service 😳 ), but the little hitch is still there. Spin the cranks on the bike stand and you can see the cranks inching around slowly as something catches.

    So….

Is my freehub body worn out?

Are the teeth in the hub shell worn out?

Could it be due to something entirely different? e.g Loose headset, phase of the moon, anguish over Rolf?

    What do you guys think?

    Beagy
